Cisco router comparison

C8200-1N-4T vs C8235-E-G2

At the front panel, C8200-1N-4T is a four-port 1G router: two RJ-45 connections and two SFP connections. C8235-E-G2 also has four routed ports, but raises the ceiling to two 1/10G SFP+ and two 2.5G RJ-45 connections. The chassis layout remains close, with 1RU, one NIM slot and one cellular PIM slot on each model. Beyond the ports, C8235-E-G2 doubles the default DRAM from 8 GB to 16 GB, adds a Secure Networking Processor for routing and security workloads, and supports a secondary external power supply; C8200-1N-4T has a single fixed internal supply without system power redundancy.

Buying decision

How to choose between C8200-1N-4T and C8235-E-G2

Review the differences in this order to identify the model that best fits the intended deployment.

  1. 01

    Traffic and deployment role

Size the platform for the branch, aggregation or edge role using the Cisco throughput metric that matches the planned traffic mode.

  2. 02

    Interfaces and expansion

Confirm built-in WAN media and speeds, then check NIM, SM-X or other module support for current and future circuits.

  3. 03

    Software, licensing and power

Verify SD-WAN or routing software, subscriptions, memory, storage and the required power-redundancy design.
