The C8235-E-G2 is a Cisco 8200 Series modular secure router for 1 RU branch racks that need WAN interfaces they can change after deployment. The router has 2x 1/10 GE SFP+ and 2x 2.5 GE mGig RJ-45 UPOE+ WAN ports, one NIM slot, one PIM slot, 19 Gbps of forwarding, 5 Gbps of IPsec and 16 GB of DRAM. The default 140W AC internal supply carries no PoE, and the 150W AC for PoE adapter adds a 120W budget.

Product Performance
Key Features
The 2.4 Gbps figure is measured with NAT, NGFW, IPS, URL filtering and malware protection all enabled. The 16 GB of DRAM backs that concurrent load.
The slot accepts SFP and SFP+ WAN modules, 4- and 8-port switch modules, serial cards and async modules, so the interface mix can change without replacing the chassis.
Four pluggables fit the PIM slot: a 5G Sub-6 GHz global module and CAT7 LTE Advanced modules for North America, EMEA/APAC/LATAM and Japan.
The 140W AC internal supply is the default and carries no PoE. A 150W AC for PoE adapter gives 120W of PoE across the UPOE+ ports, and 150W AC-DC and 150W DC-DC supplies cover -40 to 72V DC sites.
Standard operation is 0 to 40°C up to 10,000 ft or 0 to 45°C up to 6000 ft. The -5 to 55°C NEBS range needs an additional third fan assembly.
The router is 1.73 x 17.25 x 11.81 in. and 8.36 lbs, built for standard rack mounting rather than a desktop shelf.
Application Scenarios
A mid-size branch terminates its own internet breakout on the router and runs NAT, NGFW, intrusion prevention, URL filtering and malware protection within the 2.4 Gbps Threat protection figure.
In a branch rack where carrier delivery is not final, the NIM slot takes a serial, async, SFP or switch module once the circuit type is known.
A cabinet beside carrier equipment can use the router across its -5 to 55°C NEBS range up to 6000 feet once the additional third fan assembly is fitted.

C8235-E-G2 and C8231-E-G2 have the same ports, NIM and PIM slots, 140 W internal supply and 19, 5 and 4 Gbps of forwarding, IPsec and SD-WAN throughput, but C8235-E-G2 carries 16 GB of DRAM and 2.4 Gbps of Threat protection against 8 GB and 1 Gbps. Branches that run NGFW, IPS, URL filtering and AMP above 1 Gbps need C8235-E-G2, while sites that only route and encrypt can order C8231-E-G2. Sites that want six more mGig copper ports for local switching and no NIM slot can move to C8235-G2, a desktop unit on a 66 W external adapter with the same 16 GB and 2.4 Gbps.

- PoE adapter: Add the 150 W AC for PoE external adapter, which carries the 120W PoE budget. The default 140 W AC internal supply has no PoE budget.
- Secondary power supply: Add a Secondary PSU external adapter, 150 W AC-DC or 150 W DC-DC, beyond the single internal default supply.
- NIM card: Select one of C-NIM-WAN-2X, C-NIM-WAN-4S, C-NIM-4X, C-NIM-8T, C-NIM-8M, NIM-1T, NIM-2T, NIM-4T, NIM-16A or NIM-24A. The chassis has one NIM slot and no SM-form-factor modules are listed for it.
- Cellular PIM: Select P-5GS6-R16SA-GL, P-LTEA7-NA, P-LTEA7-EAL or P-LTEA7-JP by region. The PIM slot takes these four pluggables.
- Storage: Choose the default 16 GB or the upgrade to 600 GB. The option ordered sets the storage capacity.
- Third fan assembly: Add the additional third fan assembly for the NEBS range of -5 to 55 degrees C. The extra assembly is required for that temperature range.
