C8475-G2 Description
The C8475-G2 is a Cisco 8400 Series Secure Router, a 1 RU fixed platform for campus edge sites with many optical circuits. The router has 8 x 1 GE SFP, 8 x 1/10 GE SFP+ and 4 x 10/25 GE SFP28 WAN ports, forwards up to 91 Gbps with up to 45 Gbps of IPsec across 3,500 tunnels, and starts with 32 GB of DRAM. DRAM of 64 GB is supported from Cisco IOS XE 17.18.3, and the chassis has no expansion or cellular slots.

Key Features
Eight 1 GE SFP, eight 1/10 GE SFP+ and four 10/25 GE SFP28 ports share a 1 RU chassis. All twenty WAN ports are optical cages.
Four 10/25 GE SFP28 ports allow two pairs of 25G links, for example a redundant handoff to the core without using an SFP+ port.
SD-WAN throughput reaches up to 21.7 Gbps at 512 bytes with IPsec, QoS, Deep Packet Inspection and Flexible NetFlow enabled. Plain forwarding is up to 91 Gbps.
DRAM is 32 GB by default and 64 GB is supported from Cisco IOS XE 17.18.3. Estates on an earlier release size against 32 GB.
The router takes a 400W AC, 400W DC or 400W HVDC supply, so the facility type decides the supply and the platform stays the same.
The routing table holds 5.8M IPv4 and IPv6 routes and the router terminates up to 3,500 IPsec tunnels at up to 45 Gbps of IPsec throughput.
Application Scenarios
A campus edge that terminates many optical circuits in one rack unit uses the twenty SFP, SFP+ and SFP28 ports, with 1 GE and 10 GE toward distribution and 25 GE toward the core.
A regional hub whose traffic is mostly SD-WAN overlay is sized against the router’s 21.7 Gbps of SD-WAN throughput rather than its 91 Gbps of forwarding.
Buildings on 400W AC and plant rooms on 400W DC or 400W HVDC power can run the same platform with the matching supply in each.

C8475-G2 and C8455-G2 differ in port density and power: C8475-G2 has 8 x 1/10 GE SFP+ and 4 x 10/25 GE SFP28 ports against 2 and 2, forwards 91 Gbps against 67 Gbps and uses a 400W AC supply against 250W. Sites that terminate no more than two 25 GE circuits can order C8455-G2, since both share 5.8M routes, 3,500 IPsec tunnels and the Cisco IOS XE 17.15.3 floor. Hubs with more than 3,500 spokes need C8550-G2 with 8M routes and 10,000 tunnels, but it has no 25 GE ports and delivers 19 Gbps of SD-WAN against 21.7 Gbps here. The 64 GB DRAM option is supported only from Cisco IOS XE 17.18.3, so designs on the 17.15 train size against 32 GB.
