C8161-G2 Description
The C8161-G2 is a Cisco 8100 Series Secure Router for small branches that power endpoints directly from the router. The fanless router forwards 5.6 Gbps and carries 900 Mbps of SD-WAN traffic, with two 1GE RJ-45/SFP combo WAN ports and six LAN ports rated 4PoE/2PoE+ for 80W of PoE output on a 150W external supply. The 80W is a combined ceiling across all powered ports, and the cellular slot takes a pluggable LTE or 5G module fitted separately.

Product Performance
Key Features
The six LAN ports are rated 4PoE/2PoE+ with a PoE output max power of 80W, so access points, cameras and similar endpoints can be powered from the router itself.
The larger external supply feeds the powered ports, while the router’s own typical draw is 25W before any endpoint load.
The 80W is shared across every powered port, and no per-port wattage is published, so the endpoint plan follows the power class of each device. Two devices drawing 30W each already use 75% of it.
The cellular slot takes P-5GS6-R16SA-GL for 5G SA Global or the CAT7 LTE Advanced P-LTEA7-NA, P-LTEA7-EAL and P-LTEA7-JP, which are matched to the region and replaced independently of the router.
SD-WAN Capable is Yes at 900 Mbps, with 1 Gbps of Threat Protection, 500K IPv4 routes, 4K VRFs and 250 IPsec tunnels. The router starts at Cisco IOS XE 17.18.1.
The 5.1 lb body has no fan even with the larger supply and the powered ports, and it mounts in a rack, on a desk, under a desk, on DIN-rail or on a wall.
Application Scenarios
A small branch connects one or two wireless access points straight to the router’s PoE LAN ports, so those access points need no separate switch or injector.
At a small site with a few IP cameras, the cameras plug into the 4PoE/2PoE+ LAN ports and draw power within the 80W output limit.
A site that powers its endpoints from the router can add a pluggable LTE or 5G module to the cellular slot for a backup WAN path.

C8161-G2 is the PoE model of the pair with C8151-G2: its six LAN ports are rated 4PoE/2PoE+ with 80W of output on a 150W supply, while C8151-G2 has the same WAN ports, pluggable cellular slot and 5.6 Gbps forwarding on a 66W supply with no PoE output. Sites with no powered endpoints can order C8151-G2 and use the smaller supply. Sites with no cellular need and no PoE can use C8140-G2, which also forwards 5.6 Gbps with 900 Mbps SD-WAN but supports SD-WAN only from Cisco IOS XE 26.2.1 and holds 280K IPv4 routes and 1K VRFs against 500K and 4K.
