C8151-CVAI-G2 Description
The C8151-CVAI-G2 carries four independent access paths on one fanless chassis: an RJ-11 modem for VDSL and ADSL over ISDN, an XGSPON/10G BASE-T port, a 1GE RJ-45/SFP combo Ethernet port and an embedded 5G Release 17 radio with dual nano SIM slots. Six LAN ports and two Flex ports sit behind them. Cisco marks the model SD-WAN Capable Yes with 900 Mbps of SD-WAN and 1 Gbps of Threat Protection published alongside 5.6 Gbps forwarding, and the table tier is 500K routes with 4K VRFs. Its DSL variant is the ISDN-side family, which is the only specification separating it from C8151-CVAP-G2. The 5.1 lb body draws 27W typical and starts at Cisco IOS XE 26.1.1.

Key Features
Copper DSL, passive optical, Ethernet and cellular are all terminated on the chassis, so a branch can hold a primary wired service and a wireless backup without an external modem, an optical network terminal or a cellular gateway beside it.
This unit’s embedded modem covers VDSL and ADSL over ISDN; the POTS-side family is a separate part number, and no other published figure differs between the two.
The 5G Release 17 module is embedded with dual nano SIM slots instead of occupying a pluggable bay, so the cellular path arrives without a separate module order and without consuming an expansion position.
SD-WAN Capable is marked Yes with 900 Mbps published, which lets a DSL-fed or PON-fed site be managed as a fabric endpoint rather than as a standalone routed branch.
The larger 8100 body gives six LAN and two Flex positions, three times the wired capacity of the C8130 DSL models, which is what makes it viable as the only device at a site.
Typical draw is 27W in a fanless 5.1 lb chassis, so four access technologies and a radio arrive without a fan, a second power feed or a mounting change.
Application Scenarios
Deployed where an ISDN-delivered DSL circuit feeds a site that is nonetheless managed centrally as an SD-WAN endpoint.
Installed where the embedded 5G module provides a failover path independent of the copper or optical service on the same chassis.
Placed where six LAN ports and the access interfaces together let one unit serve as modem, router and switch for the site.

Cisco IOS XE 26.1.1 |
Cisco IOS XE 26.1.1 |
Cisco IOS XE 17.18.1 |
- C8151-CVAI-G2 and C8151-CVAP-G2 are separated by one line: the embedded modem is built for ISDN-delivered lines here and POTS-delivered lines there. The four access paths, six LAN ports, embedded 5G module, SD-WAN figures, 500K table tier, 5.1 lb chassis and 26.1.1 floor are shared.
- Because the pair is otherwise identical, an estate can treat the DSL family as a per-site attribute and keep everything else, from the fabric design to the mounting plan, constant across both part numbers.
- C8151-G2 shows what dropping the broadband interfaces returns. It keeps six LAN ports, the same forwarding and SD-WAN figures and the same 500K tier, but replaces the DSL and XGSPON ports with a second gigabit combo WAN port and swaps the embedded radio for a pluggable one, drawing 23W instead of 27W on the earlier 17.18.1 train.
- For deciding which SKU to order, take the DSL family from the site survey to choose between this model and C8151-CVAP-G2; then ask whether the site actually has a broadband line at all, because a pure Ethernet site is better served by C8151-G2 and its pluggable radio.
Selection Guide
1. When The Site Needs Every Access Path
This model earns its 27W and 5.1 lb only where more than one access technology is in play; a branch with a single Ethernet handoff and a cellular backup gets the same forwarding, SD-WAN and table figures from C8151-G2 at 23W with a pluggable radio.
2. The ISDN Family Is Fixed In Hardware
Cisco publishes the DSL variant as a property of the part number rather than a configurable mode, so a unit ordered against a POTS-delivered survey has to be exchanged for C8151-CVAP-G2 rather than reconfigured.
3. Embedded Radio Against A Replaceable One
C8151-G2 and C8161-G2 take a removable pluggable while the radio here is soldered in; an estate expecting to change cellular generation keeps that option only by giving up the DSL and XGSPON interfaces.
4. A Broadband Site That Still Joins The Fabric
The C8130 DSL models are marked SD-WAN Capable No, so a broadband branch that must be centrally managed has to be here or on C8151-CVAP-G2; port count and throughput follow that decision rather than driving it.
5. Two Release Families Across The DSL Range
All four DSL models sit on Cisco IOS XE 26.1.1 while C8151-G2 and C8161-G2 sit on 17.18.1; an estate mixing broadband and Ethernet branches carries both trains rather than one.
Ordering Checklist
|
Check Item |
What to Confirm |
Why It Matters |
|---|---|---|
|
DSL family from the site survey |
Confirm the local loop is ISDN-delivered and matches Annex B/J. |
C8151-CVAP-G2 carries the POTS variant and is otherwise identical, so this is the only attribute separating the two orders. |
|
Carrier SIM profiles |
Confirm which carrier profiles will occupy the two nano SIM slots. |
The radio is embedded and the SIMs are the only per-site cellular decision. |
|
Cellular band coverage |
Confirm the deployment region falls inside the published 5G FR1 and LTE band list. |
The module is fixed in the chassis and cannot be exchanged for a regional variant. |
|
XGS-PON readiness |
Confirm whether the optical port will be used at commissioning or after a later cutover. |
The port ships fitted either way, but an active PON service needs the provider handoff. |
|
Fabric participation |
Confirm the site will be managed as a Cisco Catalyst SD-WAN endpoint. |
If it will not, the C8130 DSL models cover the same broadband interfaces at lower cost. |
|
Software image floor |
Confirm the image is Cisco IOS XE 26.1.1 or later. |
The DSL models sit on a different release family from C8151-G2 and C8161-G2 at 17.18.1. |
|
Mounting hardware |
Confirm which of rackmount, desktop, under-desk or DIN-rail mounting the site uses and that the accessory is on the order. |
Each mounting position needs its own hardware. |
