The C8550-G2 is a Cisco 8500 Series Secure Router, a 1 RU fixed aggregation platform for regional hubs and internet edges. The router has 12 x 1/10GE SFP+ WAN ports, forwards up to 115 Gbps with up to 48 Gbps of IPsec across 10,000 tunnels, and carries 8M IPv4 and IPv6 routes with 32 GB of DRAM. Power comes from a 750 W AC or 950 W DC supply, and WAN MACsec is supported on all built-in ports.

Key Features
All twelve WAN ports are 1/10GE SFP+ cages, so any circuit can land on any port at 1G or 10G.
WAN MACsec is supported in all built-in ports, so link encryption does not depend on which port a circuit uses.
The router terminates up to 10,000 IPsec tunnels at up to 48 Gbps of IPsec throughput, which sets the number of spokes one hub can carry.
Table scale reaches 8M IPv4 and IPv6 routes, 16M NAT sessions, 8K VRFs, 4K IPv4 ACLs and 380K ACEs on a single 1 RU chassis.
The router takes either a 750 W AC or a 950 W DC supply, so AC and DC facilities differ only in the supply.
DRAM is 32 GB by default with a 64 GB option, and storage is 480 GB by default.
Application Scenarios
A hub that terminates many branch tunnels is sized by the router’s 10,000 IPsec tunnels and 48 Gbps of IPsec throughput rather than by its port count.
An internet edge that holds large IPv4 and IPv6 routing tables uses the 8M route capacity and 16M NAT sessions in a single rack unit.
A shared aggregation layer that separates tenants or business units uses the 8K VRFs across the twelve WAN ports.

C8550-G2 and C8570-G2 share 8M routes and 10,000 IPsec tunnels, so the split is port speed: C8550-G2 has 12 x 1/10GE SFP+ ports, while C8570-G2 adds 2 x 40GE QSFP+ and 2 x 40/100GE QSFP28 ports, up to 240GE enabled at once, and forwards 190 Gbps against 115 Gbps. Circuits faster than 10 GE need C8570-G2. C8475-G2 is the choice below the 8500 tier: it delivers 21.7 Gbps of SD-WAN against 19 Gbps and has 4 x 10/25 GE SFP28 ports, but stops at 5.8M routes and 3,500 tunnels, so hubs with more than 3,500 spokes stay on C8550-G2. The 8500 Series starts at Cisco IOS XE 17.15.4, one maintenance release above the 17.15.3 of C8475-G2, which matters for estates frozen on 17.15.3.
