The C8231-G2 is the compact multigigabit model in the Cisco 8200 Series desktop range, a 5 lb chassis that mixes port speeds rather than running them all at 2.5 GE. Four copper ports are multigigabit, two as WAN with one carrying PoE+ and two as Flex, while the four LAN ports stay at 1 GE; uplinks are 2x 1/10 GE SFP+. It forwards at 19 Gbps, the same figure the rest of the mGig 8200 models publish, but its inspection tier is 1 Gbps and DRAM is 8 GB. Only one of the WAN mGig ports carries PoE+, and the 30W ceiling on the 115 W adapter means the router powers one endpoint rather than serving as a small PoE switch.
Operating temperature reaches 45 degrees C at sea level against the 40 degrees C of C8235-G2, so an unconditioned cabinet that would exclude the multigigabit model still accepts this one.
