  • The port budget falls further than the throughput does. Six ports against ten on C8221-G2, with the two LAN ports halved, means a site with more than a handful of wired devices runs out of ports before it runs out of forwarding capacity.
  • What it returns is footprint and power: 3.38 lb and 15.4W typical against 5 lb and 21W, and a 30W adapter rather than a 66W one. Across a large estate of small sites that difference shows up in mounting, UPS sizing and circuit planning.

2. Circuits Below Six Gigabits

Forwarding stops at 5.6 Gbps against 19 Gbps on every other 8200 model; a branch whose circuit is at or above a gigabit with growth headroom should size against the larger models rather than assume this tier will stretch.

3. Combo Cages Remove The Media Decision

Both WAN ports accept copper or an SFP optic, so a standardised estate can deploy one part number across sites with different handoff media, something the SFP+-only and RJ-45-only models in this series cannot do.

4. A Release Floor Later Than Every Sibling

Cisco IOS XE Release 26.2.1 is one maintenance family past the 26.1.2 of C8221-G2 and C8225-G2; an estate qualifying a single image across the 8200 range has to reach 26.2.1 for this model, which the others do not require.

5. Remote Access Without A Management Port

The larger 8200 models publish a dedicated out-of-band management port alongside the console; this one publishes only an RJ-45 console, so a site plan relying on separate management reachability needs a different model or an external console server.
