C8140-G2 Description
The C8140-G2 gives the 8100 Series its largest routing-only faceplate: two 1GE RJ-45/SFP combo WAN ports, two Flex ports and six LAN ports, ten gigabit positions in a fanless 3.57 lb chassis. Forwarding is 5.6 Gbps, triple the entry models, with 1.5 Gbps of IPsec. Cisco marks it SD-WAN Capable No and publishes no SD-WAN or Threat Protection figure, and it holds the lower table tier at 280K IPv4 routes and 1K VRFs. There is no cellular bay. A 66W external supply powers it at 20W typical draw, and the minimum release is Cisco IOS XE 17.18.1.

At 5.6 Gbps this router forwards three times what C8130-G2 and the DSL models manage, which is what lets a ten-port site actually use its ports rather than being bounded at 1.9 Gbps.
Both WAN ports are RJ-45/SFP combo, so a dual-circuit site can take copper on one and fibre on the other, or two of either, without a media decision at purchase.
Typical draw is 20W, below the 23W of the DSL models and the 23W of C8151-G2, despite carrying more usable ports than either.
Route capacity stays at 280K with 1K VRFs; Cisco ties the higher 500K tier to SD-WAN capability rather than to port count, so a ten-port routed site still plans against the smaller table.

2. Where Four Ports Stop Being Enough
C8130-G2 offers two Flex and two LAN positions against the two and six here; a site with more than four wired devices either adds a switch or moves to this model, and the 5.6 Gbps forwarding tier comes with it either way.
3. Cellular Backup Is Not Available At Any Configuration
Cisco supports the LTE and 5G pluggables only on C8151-G2 and C8161-G2; a site needing wireless backup cannot reach it from this SKU regardless of accessory choice, so the requirement decides the model rather than the order lines.
4. Two Hundred Eighty Thousand Routes At Ten Ports
Table scale follows SD-WAN capability rather than port count, so this model carries the same 280K routes and 1K VRFs as the six-port entry router; a segmented design with many VRFs needs the SD-WAN capable tier even when its port count fits here.
