C8131-G2 Description
The C8131-G2 is a Cisco 8100 Series Secure Router for small branches that join an SD-WAN fabric from a fanless chassis. The router has six 1GE ports (one RJ-45 WAN, one RJ-45/SFP combo WAN, two Flex and two LAN), 1.9 Gbps of forwarding, 1.5 Gbps of IPsec across 250 tunnels, 900 Mbps of SD-WAN and 1 Gbps of Threat Protection. The 8100 Series chassis has no NIM or SM bay and this model has no cellular option, so every WAN path is Ethernet.

Key Features
The body has no fan and measures 1.09 x 7.8 x 10.8 in at 3.5 lb. It mounts on a rack, desktop, under a desk, on DIN-rail or on a wall.
The router runs 900 Mbps of SD-WAN with IPsec, QoS, deep packet inspection and Flexible NetFlow enabled. Device software starts at Cisco IOS XE 26.1.1.
Threat Protection throughput is 1 Gbps with direct internet access NAT, zone-based firewall, intrusion prevention, URL filtering and advanced malware protection all running.
The higher 8100 scale tier gives 500K IPv4 routes, 500K IPv6 routes, 10K ACEs and 4K VRFs. Separate routing tables for guest, corporate and device traffic fit within that.
One of the two WAN ports is an RJ-45/SFP combo, so a second circuit can arrive on either copper or fibre. The other WAN port is 1GE RJ-45.
Typical power is 16W from an external supply rated 30W or 66W. Operating temperature runs from 0 to 40 degrees C at sea level.
Application Scenarios
A small branch that terminates an SD-WAN overlay runs the router’s 900 Mbps SD-WAN feature set on its two WAN ports, while the two LAN ports connect the site switch.
In a small retail or office site, the router keeps guest, corporate and device traffic in separate VRFs within its 4K VRF capacity and applies zone-based firewall policy at the internet breakout.
Where floor space is limited, the fanless 3.5 lb chassis mounts on a wall, under a desk or on DIN-rail, and its 16W typical draw keeps the site’s power load small.

C8131-G2 and C8130-G2 share the same six-port fanless chassis, 1.9 Gbps of forwarding and 16W of typical draw, and Cisco separates them on capability: C8131-G2 supports SD-WAN from its Cisco IOS XE 26.1.1 floor and publishes 1 Gbps of Threat Protection, while C8130-G2 reaches SD-WAN only from Cisco IOS XE 26.2.1 and has no Threat Protection figure. The table tier also rises from 280K IPv4 routes and 1K VRFs on C8130-G2 to 500K routes and 4K VRFs here, so a branch that segments traffic into many VRFs needs this model. A site that needs six LAN ports, 5.6 Gbps of forwarding or a pluggable LTE or 5G module moves to C8151-G2, which weighs 5.1 lb against 3.5 lb and draws 23W against 16W.
