IE-4000-8GT4G-E Description
The IE-4000-8GT4G-E is a Cisco Industrial Ethernet 4000 Series managed switch for DIN-rail industrial edge cabinets that connect copper endpoints. The switch has eight Gigabit Ethernet RJ45 downlinks, four Gigabit Ethernet combo uplinks, a redundant 9.6 to 60 VDC input and 35 W power consumption, with operation from -40C to +70C in a vented enclosure. It runs LAN Base and has no PoE ports, so connected endpoints need their own power.

Key Features
The downlinks are RJ45 copper ports, so cabinet wiring stays on standard Ethernet cable. None of the ports supplies PoE, and endpoints take power from their own supply.
Each Gigabit combo uplink can use SFP fiber or RJ45 copper. The uplink media can follow the cabling at the site.
LAN Base is the default software feature set. Upgrades to IP Services and MRP roles are available as separate software licenses.
The redundant 9.6 to 60 VDC input draws a maximum of 3.7 A. Measured consumption is 35 W at 9.6 V without PoE power.
CIP Ethernet/IP, PROFINET v2, IEEE 1588 PTP v2, NTP to PTP translation and CIP Time Sync are in the feature set. They let the switch sit in a controller network and distribute timing.
The operating range is -40C to +70C in a vented enclosure, -40C to +60C in a sealed enclosure and -34C to +75C with a fan or blower. The enclosure design therefore sets the usable ambient limit.
Application Scenarios
In a machine-cell cabinet, the switch connects eight Gigabit controllers, cameras and drives that are powered separately, and sends their traffic upstream on the combo uplinks.
A wayside cabinet along a rail or road corridor can use the redundant DC input from a battery-backed supply and take a fiber SFP on a combo uplink toward the next cabinet.
In a substation, the switch aggregates copper-connected meters and gateways and runs the CIP Ethernet/IP, PROFINET v2 and IEEE 1588 PTP v2 functions of its LAN Base feature set.

IE-4000-8GT4G-E has eight Gigabit copper downlinks and no PoE, while IE-4000-8GS4G-E replaces them with eight Gigabit SFP downlinks, so fiber access runs move to IE-4000-8GS4G-E. Endpoints that need power from the switch require IE-4000-8GT8GP4G-E, which keeps eight copper downlinks and adds eight Gigabit PoE+ ports for 20 ports in total. The PoE+ model also lists 4.3 A and 40 W against 3.7 A and 35 W here, both measured without PoE output. For an unpowered copper cabinet, IE-4000-8GT4G-E is the smallest of the three.
Ordering Checklist
- SD card: Add SD-IE-1GB= only if a spare card is wanted. A 1-GB removable SD card is included with IE 4000 switches and SD-IE-1GB= is the spare PID, so adding it duplicates the card already in the box.
- DIN rail kit: Add STK-RACK-DINRAIL=, the 19 in. DIN rail mount kit. It is a separate accessory PID, not part of the switch order.
- MRP ring role: Add LIC-MRP-Manager= for the ring manager and LIC-MRP-Client= for each client switch. MRP ring roles are separate license PIDs and are not added by the switch order.
