IE-4000-8GS4G-E Description
The IE-4000-8GS4G-E is a Cisco Industrial Ethernet 4000 Series switch for DIN-rail cabinets and field networks that need Gigabit fiber access. The switch has eight Gigabit Ethernet SFP downlinks, four Gigabit Ethernet combo uplinks, a redundant 9.6 to 60 VDC input and 42 W power consumption, and it operates from -40 to 70 C. It runs LAN Base and has no PoE ports, and the IP Services features need the L-IE4000-RTU= software upgrade.

Product Performance
Key Features
The downlinks are SFP cages that take LC fiber modules. Link speed and reach are set by the module installed in each cage.
Each uplink has a copper and a fiber physical interface, with only one active at a time. Media can therefore follow the cabling at each site.
LAN Base is the default feature set. The L-IE4000-RTU= license moves the switch to IP Services Layer 3 features without a hardware change.
The nominal 9.6 to 60 VDC range covers the common 12, 24 and 48 VDC cabinet supplies. Maximum input current is 5.0 A and power consumption is 42 W, excluding powered-device load.
CIP EtherNet/IP, PROFINET v2, IEEE 1588 PTP v2 and MODBUS TCP/IP are in the LAN Base feature table. The same switch can therefore carry control traffic from different automation vendors.
A 1 GB removable SD card is included, and SwapDrive uses it for zero-config replacement of a failed switch. Recovery then needs no networking expertise on site.
Application Scenarios
In a substation control building, the switch links protection and metering devices over LC fiber on its SFP downlinks and returns the traffic to the station network through the combo uplinks.
A roadside cabinet on a highway or tunnel run can use the combo uplinks as copper to a local device or as fiber toward the next cabinet, with the redundant DC input feeding the switch from two sources.
On a production floor with long runs between machine areas, the switch collects fiber links from remote cells and passes them upstream on one of its four Gigabit uplinks.

IE-4000-8GS4G-E carries eight Gigabit SFP fiber downlinks, while IE-4000-8GT4G-E has eight Gigabit copper downlinks, so cabinets that cable to RJ45 devices move to IE-4000-8GT4G-E. The copper model also draws less, at 35 W and 3.7 A maximum input current against 42 W and 5.0 A. IE-4000-8S4G-E keeps the SFP fiber layout but its eight downlinks are Fast Ethernet, so it suits only links that never need Gigabit speed, and IE-4000-8GS4G-E is the choice when fiber downlinks must run at 1 Gbps. None of the three lists PoE ports, so powered endpoints need a different IE 4000 model.
Ordering Checklist
- SD card: Add SD-IE-1GB= only if a spare card is wanted. A 1-GB removable SD card is included with IE 4000 switches and SD-IE-1GB= is the spare PID, so adding it duplicates the card already in the box.
- DIN rail kit: Add STK-RACK-DINRAIL=, the 19 in. DIN rail mount kit. It is a separate accessory PID, not part of the switch order.
- MRP ring role: Add LIC-MRP-Manager= for the ring manager and LIC-MRP-Client= for each client switch. MRP ring roles are separate license PIDs and are not added by the switch order.
