IE-3300-8P2S-A Description
The IE-3300-8P2S-A is a Cisco Catalyst IE3300 Rugged Series modular industrial PoE switch that powers and connects 8 Gigabit PoE/PoE+ copper downlinks behind 2 Gigabit SFP uplinks, ordered with the perpetual Network Advantage license. Its 240W base PoE budget rises to 360W when a PoE expansion module joins the single IEM-3300 bay, letting one fanless DIN rail unit carry the cameras, access points, phones, and sensors of an industrial zone while IOS XE provides REP and MRP rings, PROFINET and EtherNet/IP (CIP), IEEE 1588 PTPv2 in both Default and Power Profile, and IOx edge compute for Cyber Vision. The Advantage tier layers OSPF, BGP, EIGRP, VRF-lite, MACsec-256, and multicast routing over that baseline, and dual 9.6-60VDC feeds, a -40°C to +70°C vented range, and substation, rail, and Class I Div 2 approvals keep the powered edge running in plants, corridors, and yards.

Key Features
Eight PoE/PoE+ Gigabit downlinks under a 240W budget expand through the module bay to 16 or 24 powered ports at 360W, so a growing camera or access point estate stays on one switch line item.
Pairing the PoE base with IEM-3300-4MU= adds four 2.5G ports at 802.3bt Type 4, covering high-draw endpoints such as Wi-Fi 6 access points without stepping up to the 10G-uplink 8U2X base.
VRF-lite, OSPF/BGP/EIGRP, and policy-based routing arrive in this SKU’s perpetual license, so camera VLANs and OT segments route at the powered edge instead of hair-pinning through a core.
The GE-uplink base runs IEEE 1588 PTPv2 in Default and Power Profile (IEEE C37.238), keeping the powered edge eligible for substation and ITS timing designs; note the 4MU module itself carries no PTP.
MACsec-256 from the Advantage tier protects uplinks that traverse public or shared pathways, a step beyond the MACsec-128 ceiling of the Essentials variant.
IEEE 1613, IEC 61850-3, EN50121/EN50155 rail, NEMA TS 2, DNV marine, and Class I Div 2 approvals let the same powered switch serve substations, corridors, vessels, and process areas.
Application Scenarios
Deployed along transportation corridors and perimeters where each cabinet powers a cluster of PTZ and fixed cameras over PoE+ and backhauls the video across the two SFP uplinks.
Installed at manufacturing cells that mix PoE endpoints – access points, phones, HMI panels – with machine controllers, keeping power and data on one DIN unit inside the cell cabinet.
Positioned in IEC 61850-3 environments to power IP cameras and wireless links around the yard while distributing PTP Power Profile timing from the same GE-uplink base.

- The IE-3300-8P2S-A earns its place over IE-3300-8T2S-A only when endpoints draw power over Ethernet: the two share GE uplinks, the Advantage license, and dual-profile PTP, so a data-only cabinet buys the 8T2S and skips the PoE supply class entirely.
- Against IE-3300-8U2X-A the split is power class and uplink speed together: the 8U2X reaches 802.3bt Type 3 on its downlinks, a 480W ceiling, and 10G uplinks, but gives up PTP Power Profile, which this GE-uplink PID retains at 240W/360W and PoE+ power levels.
- For deciding which SKU to order, classify the endpoint power draw first: standard PoE/PoE+ estates fit IE-3300-8P2S-A, bt-class or 10G-backhaul designs move to IE-3300-8U2X-A unless C37.238 timing forbids the 10G base, and zero PoE sends the order to IE-3300-8T2S-A.
Selection Guide
1. Size The Budget Against The Device List
A cabinet of PoE+ cameras and access points totaling under 240W fits the base switch alone; plan the 360W module path when the endpoint roadmap crosses that line, and check per-port classes rather than nameplate counts.
2. When Standard PoE+ Is Not Enough
Endpoints negotiating above 30W – 802.3bt Type 3 access points, heated PTZ housings – sit outside this PID’s PoE+ class; IE-3300-8U2X-A covers them natively, or IEM-3300-4MU= adds four Type 4 2.5G ports to this base at 360W system budget.
3. Timing Versus Bandwidth On The Uplink
Designs that must distribute PTP Power Profile (IEEE C37.238) stay on this GE-uplink base; if the same cabinet instead needs 10G backhaul and only Default Profile timing, IE-3300-8U2X-A takes the slot.
4. Essentials Variant And The Upgrade Path
A pure L2 powered ring member can start on IE-3300-8P2S-E and adopt this SKU’s routing, VRF-lite, and MACsec-256 later through the perpetual IE3300-NW-A= upgrade license, so choose -A up front only when those features land at deployment.

Ordering Checklist
|
Check Item |
What to Confirm |
Why It Matters |
|---|---|---|
|
PoE-class supply |
Order a PoE-capable DIN supply sized for 32W switch draw plus the planned PoE budget (240W or 360W path). |
An undersized supply drops PoE loads under peak draw, which surfaces as endpoint reboots in the field. |
|
54V for PoE+ |
Wire 54VDC input when any port must deliver PoE+ (30W class). |
A 48V feed caps ports at PoE class and starves PoE+ endpoints. |
|
Module compatibility |
Choose PoE expansion modules only (8P/16P/4MU) for budget growth, and allow the added DIN width. |
Data modules never raise the budget, and PoE modules will not power up on a data-only base ordered by mistake. |
|
PTP on module ports |
Keep timing-critical devices on base ports when IEM-3300-4MU= is fitted. |
The 4MU module does not support PTP, so timing endpoints on its ports silently lose sync. |
|
Classified-area parts |
Avoid -L supplies in Class I Div 2 / Zone 2 areas and plan the required enclosure. |
The -L units are IP20 and uncertified for hazardous locations, failing site acceptance. |
|
SD card for SwapDrive |
Add SD-IE-16GB= when zero-touch replacement is in the operations plan. |
The card is optional and not shipped by default; SwapDrive has nothing to restore without it. |
