IE-3300-8T2X-A Description
The IE-3300-8T2X-A is a Cisco Catalyst IE3300 Rugged Series industrial switch for DIN-rail cabinets that aggregate camera, cell and telemetry traffic at 10G. The switch has eight Gigabit copper ports with no PoE and two 1G/10G SFP+ uplinks, runs from dual 9.6 to 60VDC inputs at 28W, and operates from -40°C to +70°C. The 10G-uplink base supports only the PTP Default Profile, and L2NAT does not apply to its uplink ports.

Key Features
The two SFP+ slots run at 1G or 10G, so traffic from a whole cabinet leaves at backbone speed instead of queuing behind Gigabit uplinks.
OSPF, BGP, EIGRP, policy-based routing and VRF-lite are part of the perpetual license, so the switch can advertise routed segments upstream across its 10G links.
PTPv2 runs in the Default Profile only on this 10G base. Designs built on the IEEE C37.238 Power Profile need a Gigabit-uplink IE3300 switch.
L2NAT works on the downlinks but not on the 10G uplink ports, so address translation at the cabinet boundary has to happen elsewhere in the path.
The IEM-3300 bay accepts copper and fiber data modules up to 16 ports, taking the system to 24 Gigabit ports beneath the same two 10G uplinks.
Advantage-tier 256-bit MACsec encrypts exposed 10G runs between buildings or along a corridor, one tier above the MACsec-128 of Network Essentials.
Application Scenarios
Where several machine cells converge, the switch collects their Gigabit copper traffic and hands consolidated flows to the plant core across dual 10G fiber uplinks.
At a surveillance hub, streams from downstream switches transit the cabinet, and the 10G uplinks remove the bottleneck that Gigabit-uplink models would impose.
As the segmentation point of an industrial zone, the switch terminates VRF-lite instances for process, safety and enterprise traffic and routes them upstream with OSPF or BGP.

IE-3300-8T2X-A and IE-3300-8T2X-E are the same data-only base with 2 1G/10G SFP+ uplinks, split by license: this -A adds OSPF, BGP and EIGRP, VRF-lite, PIM multicast and MACsec-256, while IE-3300-8T2X-E stops at static and inter-VLAN routing with MACsec-128. A site that starts on the -E can reach the -A feature set later with the perpetual IE3300-NW-A= license, so order -A first only when routing or MACsec-256 is needed at deployment. Powered endpoints move the order to IE-3300-8U2X-A, which keeps the 10G uplinks and adds 802.3bt Type 3 ports under a 480W budget including the module. Both 10G-uplink bases support only the PTP Default Profile, so IEEE C37.238 Power Profile designs use the GE-uplink IE-3300-8T2S-A.
Ordering Checklist
- Power supply: Order PWR-IE50W-AC=, PWR-IE50W-AC-IEC= or PWR-IE50W-AC-L= for this non-PoE base, which draws 28W. PWR-IE50W-AC-L= is IP20 and not certified for smart grid or hazardous locations.
- Expansion module: Choose one of IEM-3300-8T=, IEM-3300-8S=, IEM-3300-16T=, IEM-3300-6T2S= or IEM-3300-14T2S=. The base is not PoE, so the PoE modules IEM-3300-8P=, IEM-3300-16P= and IEM-3300-4MU= cannot be used with it.
- SD card: Add SD-IE-16GB= (16 GB) for configuration backup and SwapDrive replacement; 4 GB and 16 GB cards are optional. The card is not shipped by default, so SwapDrive has nothing to restore from without it.
- Catalyst Center license: Add IE3300-DNA-A or its -3Y, -5Y and -7Y terms if the switch is managed from Catalyst Center. The license is optional, and Catalyst Center Advantage requires a Network Advantage switch, so -A is the matching tier.
- SFP+ and SFP optics: Select SFP-10G-SR, SFP-10G-LR, SFP-10G-ER-I= or SFP-10G-ZR-I= for 10G, or an SFP-H10G-CUxM twinax cable; 100M SFPs fit only the SFP ports of an expansion module. The base SFP+ uplinks do not support 100M SFPs, and SFP-10G-ZR-I= derates the switch by 6°C.
