IE-3300-8U2X-E Description
The IE-3300-8U2X-E is a Cisco Catalyst IE3300 Rugged Series industrial switch for DIN-rail cabinets that power cameras and access points over 10G uplinks. The switch runs Network Essentials on eight Gigabit copper ports with 802.3bt Type 3 4PPoE, adds two 1G/10G SFP+ uplinks and a PoE budget of up to 480W with an expansion module, and takes dual DC inputs from 9.6 to 60VDC. PoE needs a 48VDC feed, PoE+ and 4PPoE need 54VDC, and PTP runs in Default Profile only on this 10G base.

Key Features
The eight Gigabit ports support 802.3bt Type 3 alongside PoE and PoE+, so heated camera housings and high-draw access points connect without injectors.
The system budget reaches 480W with an expansion module, but only on the right feed: 48VDC supports PoE, while PoE+ and 4PPoE need 54VDC. Switch consumption of 42W plus the PoE load must stay within the external supply wattage.
IEM-3300-4MU= adds four 2.5G ports with 802.3bt Type 4 power. The module does not support PTP.
The perpetual Network Essentials license covers Layer 2 switching, IGMP snooping, static and inter-VLAN routing, L2NAT on the copper ports and MACsec-128. The perpetual IE3300-NW-A= license adds Network Advantage routing and MACsec-256 to an installed unit.
REP, Fast REP with zero-touch provisioning and PROFINET-MRP are part of Network Essentials, so resilient loops between powered cabinets need no extra license.
IEEE 1588 PTPv2 runs in Default Profile only, and L2NAT is not supported on the SFP+ uplinks. Power Profile (IEEE C37.238) designs use the Gigabit-uplink IE3300 bases.
Application Scenarios
In a surveillance cabinet, the switch powers 802.3bt cameras and uses IGMP snooping to keep their multicast video on the ports that need it before it reaches an upstream router.
A REP or MRP ring member in a plant corridor can power access points and sensors from the same DIN-rail unit that carries the ring traffic.
Across a distribution center, the switch feeds ceiling-height 802.3bt access points and sends their traffic to the aggregation layer over the 10G uplinks.

IE-3300-8U2X-E and IE-3300-8U2X-A are the same hardware with the same 480W PoE budget, 42W draw and 10G uplinks; the Network Essentials license here covers Layer 2 switching, static and inter-VLAN routing and MACsec-128. A cabinet that must run OSPF, BGP, EIGRP, VRF-lite, PIM multicast or MACsec-256 needs IE-3300-8U2X-A, or the perpetual IE3300-NW-A= license added in place to an installed IE-3300-8U2X-E. Where nothing in the cabinet needs PoE, IE-3300-8T2X-E does the same transport job at 28W. Designs that require IEEE C37.238 Power Profile timing move to a GE-uplink base such as IE-3300-8P2S-E.

Ordering Checklist
- Power supply: For the full 480W budget order PWR-IE480W-PCAC-L=; PWR-IE170W-PC-AC=, PWR-IE170W-PC-DC= and PWR-IE240W-PCAC-L= cover partial PoE loads. Switch draw plus PoE load must stay within the supply wattage; an undersized supply cannot deliver the PoE budget, and -L units are not certified for smart grid or hazardous-location sites.
- Input voltage: Feed 54VDC for PoE+ and 4PPoE ports; 48VDC supports basic PoE only. A 48VDC feed does not power PoE+ or 802.3bt endpoints.
- Expansion module: Order one IEM-3300 module per base; IEM-3300-4MU= is the only route to 802.3bt Type 4 (4 ports) and does not support PTP, while IEM-3300-8P= and IEM-3300-16P= add PoE/PoE+ ports up to 24 in total. Type 4 endpoints and added PoE ports depend on the module chosen.
- Catalyst Center license: Add IE3300-DNA-E or a term such as IE3300-DNA-E-3Y, only if Catalyst Center manages the switch. The license is an optional add-on and is not included with the hardware.
- SD card: Add SD-IE-16GB= when SwapDrive replacement is planned. The card is optional and is not shipped by default.
- Uplink optics: Select industrial-grade SFP+ for the 10G ports; SFP-10G-ZR-I= still derates the switch by 6°C. COM and EXT grade SFPs force a temperature derating of the whole switch.
