IE-3300-8T2S-E Description

The IE-3300-8T2S-E is a Cisco Catalyst IE3300 Rugged Series industrial switch for DIN-rail cabinets that run Gigabit copper access on Network Essentials. The switch has eight 10/100/1000 RJ45 data-only ports and two 100/1000 SFP uplinks, draws 23W from dual 9.6 to 60VDC inputs and operates from -40°C to +70°C. The copper ports carry no PoE, and only the five non-PoE IEM-3300 modules fit the expansion bay.

Key Features

Uplinks That Run 100M Or 1G Fiber

Both SFP uplinks accept 100M as well as 1G optics, so an older Fast Ethernet fiber run can stay in service on a module such as GLC-FE-100FX-RGD=. A new link to the control room runs at 1G and reaches 70 km on GLC-ZX-SM-RGD=.

Power Profile Timing On A Gigabit Base

IEEE 1588 PTPv2 runs in the Default Profile and in the Power Profile defined by IEEE C37.238:2011, so utility networks that distribute time under the power profile can carry it through this switch.

What Network Essentials Covers

The perpetual license handles the Layer 2 side of a plant network: REP, Fast REP and PROFINET MRP rings, CIP EtherNet/IP, IGMP snooping and MACsec-128. Dynamic routing arrives later with the IE3300-NW-A= upgrade.

Low Draw On A DC Feed

The switch draws 23W at 12V and no more than 3.8A from either of two DC inputs. Even with the 19W IEM-3300-8S= fitted, the 42W total stays inside a 50W DIN-rail supply.

Expansion Without PoE

One slot takes the five non-PoE IEM-3300 modules, in copper, fiber or mixed form. The 16-port modules bring the system to 26 Gigabit ports, while PoE modules plug only into PoE bases.

Hazardous-Location And Corrosion Ratings

The chassis is certified for Class I Div 2 Groups A-D and Class I Zone 2 IIC, with ATEX installations placed in a cabinet. Salt fog and flowing mixed gas corrosion ratings also apply.

Application Scenarios

PROFINET Machine Cells

On an assembly line, the switch connects the PLC, HMI and drives of one machine cell over copper and joins the line’s PROFINET MRP ring through its SFP uplinks.

Roadside Traffic Cabinets

Traffic agencies mount the switch on the DIN rail of a NEMA TS 2 signal cabinet, where it links the intersection controller to the traffic management network over fiber.

Substation Bay Networks

Within an electric substation, protection relays and bay controllers plug into the switch, which meets IEC 61850-3 and IEEE 1613 for substation communications.

IE-3300-8T2S-E has two 100/1000 SFP uplinks and PTP in Default and Power Profile, while IE-3300-8T2X-E has 1G/10G SFP+ uplinks, Default Profile PTP only, and 100M SFPs only on module ports, so any 10G backhaul needs IE-3300-8T2X-E. Copper ports that must power devices need IE-3300-8P2S-E, with 240W on the base and 360W with a PoE module, but it draws 32W and runs PoE from 48VDC against 23W here. OSPF, BGP and EIGRP come included on IE-3300-8T2S-A; an installed IE-3300-8T2S-E reaches them through the perpetual IE3300-NW-A= license with no hardware change. PRP, HSR-SAN or DLR designs call for IE-3400-8T2S-E, which keeps the same port layout and draws 36W.

Ordering Checklist

  • DC power source: Confirm the cabinet delivers 9.6 to 60VDC to one or both DC inputs, or add a DIN rail supply such as PWR-IE50W-AC=. The combined load of the switch and its expansion module must stay within the supply wattage.
  • Supply rating for hazardous locations: Class I Div 2 or Zone 2 cabinets need a supply other than PWR-IE50W-AC-L=. The -L supplies are IP20 rated and not certified for hazardous locations or smart grid sites.
  • Expansion module type: Select IEM-3300-8T=, IEM-3300-8S=, IEM-3300-16T=, IEM-3300-6T2S= or IEM-3300-14T2S=. PoE modules plug only into PoE base switches.
  • SFP temperature grade: Cabinets that reach the -40°C to +70°C limits need industrial optics such as GLC-SX-MM-RGD= or GLC-FE-100FX-RGD=. Commercial or extended-temperature SFPs force the switch to be derated.
  • SD card for SwapDrive: Add SD-IE-16GB= when SwapDrive replacement is planned. The SD card is optional and not shipped with the switch by default.
  • Catalyst Center license: Order IE3300-DNA-E or its 3, 5 or 7-year term; IE3300-DNA-A also needs IE3300-NW-A=. Catalyst Center Advantage requires Network Advantage on the switch.
  • 19-inch rack mounting: Add STK-RACK-DINRAIL= when the switch goes into a 19-inch rack. The 19-inch DIN rail mount kit is a separate PID.

Questions & Answers

  • What operating temperature range does IE-3300-8T2S-E support?

IE-3300-8T2S-E operates from -40°C to +70°C in a 40 LFM vented enclosure. The range is -40°C to +60°C in a sealed enclosure and -40°C to +75°C in an enclosure with at least 200 LFM from a fan or blower. Commercial or extended-temperature SFPs force the switch to be derated.
  • What DC input voltage does IE-3300-8T2S-E need?

IE-3300-8T2S-E takes dual DC inputs from 9.6 to 60VDC, draws 23W and has a maximum input current of 3.8A. The cabinet can feed one or both inputs, or use a DIN rail supply such as PWR-IE50W-AC=. The copper ports carry no PoE, so no PoE input voltage applies.
  • How much power does each non-PoE IEM-3300 module add to IE-3300-8T2S-E?

IEM-3300-8T= adds 6W, IEM-3300-8S= adds 19W, IEM-3300-16T= adds 12W, IEM-3300-6T2S= adds 9W and IEM-3300-14T2S= adds 16W. The module figure must be added to the switch draw when sizing the 50W DIN-rail supply for Network Essentials deployments.
  • How many system ports does IE-3300-8T2S-E reach with IEM-3300-6T2S=?

IE-3300-8T2S-E reaches 18 system ports with IEM-3300-6T2S=. IEM-3300-8T= and IEM-3300-8S= give the same 18 ports, while IEM-3300-16T= and IEM-3300-14T2S= bring the system to 26. Order one of those two to reach the 26-port limit on Network Essentials.
  • How far can GLC-FE-100LX-RGD= link IE-3300-8T2S-E to an older Fast Ethernet device?

GLC-FE-100LX-RGD= is a 100BASE-LX10 SFP that reaches 10 km over single-mode fiber from a base SFP port of IE-3300-8T2S-E. GLC-FE-100FX-RGD= reaches 2 km over multimode fiber. Both run at 100M in the SFP uplinks, so older Fast Ethernet fiber runs can stay in service.
  • How many VLANs and STP instances does IE-3300-8T2S-E support?

IE-3300-8T2S-E supports 256 VLANs and 128 STP instances, with 1K IGMP multicast groups. These table sizes apply on Network Essentials and stay the same after an upgrade to Network Advantage, so VLAN design for the cell is limited to 256 IDs.
