IE-3300-8U2X-A Description
The IE-3300-8U2X-A is the high-power flagship of the Cisco Catalyst IE3300 Rugged Series: a modular fanless DIN rail switch whose 8 Gigabit copper downlinks deliver 4PPoE (802.3bt Type 3) beneath 2x 1G/10G SFP+ uplinks, ordered with the perpetual Network Advantage license. Its PoE system scales to 480W with an expansion module - up to 24 PoE/PoE+ ports, eight Type 3 ports, or four Type 4 ports via the IEM-3300-4MU 2.5G module - while the Advantage tier supplies OSPF, BGP, EIGRP, VRF-lite segmentation, MACsec-256, and PIM multicast routing over the IOS XE baseline of REP/MRP rings, PROFINET, EtherNet/IP (CIP), and IOx edge compute. As a 10G base it runs IEEE 1588 PTPv2 in Default Profile and excludes L2NAT from the uplink pair, and its dual 9.6-60VDC feeds, -40°C to +70°C vented envelope, and substation, rail, and Class I Div 2 approvals aim it at powered high-bandwidth edges in plants, corridors, and yards.

With a PoE expansion module the system budget reaches 480W – enough for a full field of powered endpoints – and IEM-3300-4MU= converts part of it into four 2.5G ports at Type 4 for the heaviest devices.
The Advantage license terminates VRF-lite segments, runs OSPF/BGP/EIGRP, and routes PIM multicast at the cabinet, which suits camera estates whose streams are multicast-routed rather than trunked.
Dual 1G/10G SFP+ uplinks move the aggregate of a powered edge – video, telemetry, wireless – without the uplink congestion a GE-only PoE switch would create.
PTP runs in Default Profile only, L2NAT skips the uplink pair, and the 4MU module carries no PTP; utility timing designs on C37.238 belong on GE-uplink IE3300 bases instead.

2. Power Class Before Port Count
Match endpoints to the power tiers: PoE+ estates under 360W fit IE-3300-8P2S-A at GE uplinks, while bt Type 3 devices or a 480W ceiling require this 8U2X base – and Type 4 devices additionally require the IEM-3300-4MU= module path.
3. Timing Requirements Screen The Base
This 10G base runs PTP Default Profile only; a C37.238 Power Profile design cannot be fixed by license or module choice and belongs on the GE-uplink IE3300 models.
4. Supply Sizing At 480W
Delivering the full system budget means the external supply covers 42W of switch draw plus 480W of PoE; that arithmetic lands on PWR-IE480W-PCAC-L= or dual supplies, and Class I Div 2 sites must avoid the uncertified -L units.
