SFP-10G-ER-I Description
The SFP-10G-ER-I is a Cisco multirate 10GBASE-ER SFP+ transceiver for 40 km single-mode fiber links in industrial-temperature environments. The module carries 10GBASE-ER, 10GBASE-EW and OTU2/2e at 1550 nm, draws up to 1.5W and operates from -40 to 85°C. The receiver electrical interface is limiting, and links shorter than 20 km need a 5 dB 1550 nm fixed-loss attenuator.

In an unheated roadside or remote-site cabinet, the module carries a 10G Ethernet uplink over 1550 nm single-mode fiber across -40 to 85°C where a commercial-temperature ER optic would fall outside its range.
In Remote-PHY, Carrier Ethernet and mobile backhaul links, the module serves 40 km spans that carry 10GBASE-EW or OTU2/2e signals as well as 10GBASE-ER.

SFP-10G-ER-I differs from SFP-10G-ER in temperature and protocol scope: it is rated -40 to 85 degrees C industrial and carries 10GBASE-ER, 10GBASE-EW and OTU2/2e, while SFP-10G-ER is a commercial 10GBASE-ER module. Both reach 40 km at 1.5W on 1550 nm G.652 fiber, so cabinets that fall below 0 degrees C need SFP-10G-ER-I and commercial sites can use SFP-10G-ER. SFP-10G-ER-S is the commercial S-Class ER module and does not support FCoE, so it does not cover an industrial or OTU2/2e requirement. Spans beyond 40 km, up to 70 km, move to SFP-10G-ZR-I, which stays industrial but draws 2W and uses a green latch.
Ordering Checklist
- Fiber type: Use standard G.652 single-mode fiber carrying 1550 nm. The 40 km ER class is specified only for 1550 nm single-mode fiber.
- Short-link attenuator: For links under 20 km, add a 5 dB 1550 nm fixed-loss attenuator, spare part 15216 ATT LC 5=. Without it the receiver can be overloaded on a short ER span.
