SFP-10G-LR-S Description
The SFP-10G-LR-S is a Cisco S-Class 10GBASE-LR SFP+ transceiver for 10 Gigabit Ethernet links over single-mode fiber in campus and remote-site networks. The module runs at 1310 nm over ITU-T G.652 fiber for up to 10 km on dual LC/PC connectors, draws 1W at most and operates from 0 to 70 degrees C. The S-Class module does not support FCoE, so storage-converged links need a different optic.

Between two campus buildings, the module drives a single-mode fiber run of up to 10 km from a Catalyst 9200L 10G uplink back to the distribution switch.
At a remote office with a Catalyst 1300 switch, the module carries 10G Ethernet over leased or owned single-mode fiber to the head-end site.

SFP-10G-LR-S is the S-Class listing of the 10 km 10GBASE-LR optic, carrying a no-FCoE note, while SFP-10G-LR is the standard LR listing. All four modules in the table use G.652 single-mode fiber at 1310 nm with 10 km reach and 1W maximum draw. Links that need 10GBASE-LW and OTU2e support, or an extended temperature class, move to SFP-10G-LR-X. Sites that need an industrial temperature class or CPRI move to SFP-10G-LR10-I.
Ordering Checklist
- Catalyst 1300 hosts: Confirm the switch is a Catalyst 1300 with SFP+ ports, such as C1300-24XS, C1300-12XT-2X or C1300-24MGP-4X. Models without SFP+ ports have no cage for SFP-10G-LR-S.
- Fiber type: Use single-mode fiber for a link of up to 10 km. SFP-10G-LR-S is a single-mode 10 km optic, so a multimode run does not suit it.
