The DS-C9148T-24PITK9 is a Cisco MDS 9148T 32G Fibre Channel switch for server-rack and storage-edge SAN fabrics that cool from the port side. The 1RU switch has 48 SFP+ ports at 4, 8, 16 or 32 Gbps, with 24 ports active, 24 Cisco 32G shortwave optics and 1.5 Tbps of aggregate bandwidth. Ports beyond the first 24 need M9148T-PL8 licenses, which activate 8 ports at a time up to 48.

Key Features
The 24 Cisco 32G shortwave optics ship with the switch, so the first 24 links run over multimode fiber without sourcing optics separately.
All 48 SFP+ slots are physically present and 24 are active. Each M9148T-PL8 license adds 8 ports, taking the switch to 32, 40 and then 48 active ports with no hardware change.
Ports autosense 4, 8, 16 and 32 Gbps, and each carries 32 Gbps of dedicated bandwidth. The chassis totals 1.5 Tbps of full-duplex aggregate bandwidth.
The 48 ports sit in three groups of 16, each with up to 8,300 buffer credits. The default is 500 credits per port and a single port can take up to 8,270, which is the headroom longer inter-switch links draw on.
Air enters at the port side. The four fan modules and the power supplies have to be intake versions as well, because intake and exhaust parts are separate and a mismatch reverses the airflow.
Two 80 Plus Platinum 650W AC supplies accept 100 to 240 VAC. With 24 32G shortwave optics installed the switch draws a typical 251W.

In a server row, hosts and storage arrays attach to the 24 active ports over multimode fiber with the included 32G shortwave optics, and each port keeps 32 Gbps of dedicated bandwidth.
A storage team that adds hosts and arrays over several quarters starts with 24 active ports and then turns on 8 more at a time with M9148T-PL8 licenses until all 48 ports are in use.
Where the port side of the rack faces the cold aisle, the port-side intake airflow of this switch draws cooling air in across the optics and cables.

DS-C9148T-24PITK9 and DS-C9148T-24PETK9 carry the same 24 active ports and 24 included 32G SW optics and differ only in airflow: DS-C9148T-24PITK9 is port-side intake and DS-C9148T-24PETK9 is port-side exhaust, so the choice follows the airflow direction of the rack. A SAN map that needs all 48 ports active at delivery should order DS-C9148T-48PITK9, which ships 48 active ports and 48 optics, instead of growing this SKU with M9148T-PL8 licenses in steps of 8 ports. DS-C9148T-24IK9 is the same intake switch with 24 active ports and no factory optic bundle, which suits sites that buy their optics separately.
Ordering Checklist
- Airflow of spares: Order replacement PSU DS-CAC-650W-I= and fan module DS-C32S-FAN-I= to match the port-side intake airflow. Intake and exhaust PSU and fan PIDs are separate parts, and a mismatched part reverses the airflow of the chassis.
- Port growth: Add M9148T-PL8 for 32, 40 or 48 ports; M9148T-PL8T adds 8 x 32G SW optics with the 8-port license. The bundle ships with 24 active ports, and every port beyond 24 needs its own license line.
- Power cords: Select a region cord from the CAB-9K10A-* series, CAB-9K12A-NA or CAB-250V-10A-BR, or a CAB-C15-CBN cabinet jumper. The two 650W AC supplies need cords that fit the site’s outlet or cabinet PDU.
- Optional software: Add Enterprise Package M9100ENT1K9= or SAN Insights Package L-D-M91S-AXK9= if the fabric needs them. These packages are listed as separate Table 2 licenses and are not part of the bundle PID.
