The DS-C9148T-24PETK9 is a Cisco MDS 9148T 32G Fibre Channel switch bundle for server-rack SAN fabrics cooled with port-side exhaust airflow. The 1RU switch carries 48 SFP+ ports at 4, 8, 16 or 32 Gbps, of which 24 are active and matched by 24 bundled 32G shortwave optics, with 1.5 Tbps of aggregate bandwidth. The other 24 ports stay inactive until M9148T-PL8 licenses turn them on in steps of 8 ports.

Key Features
Each of the 24 active ports has a matching DS-SFP-FC32G-SW in the box. These 850 nm multimode optics run 32G links up to 70 m on OM3 or 100 m on OM4 and OM5, and the same optic reaches 100 m on OM3 at 16G.
All 48 SFP+ cages are installed, and licenses decide how many work. M9148T-PL8 turns on 8 more ports at a time for 32, 40 and then 48, while M9148T-PL8T delivers the same license together with 8 more 32G shortwave optics.
The ports sit in three groups of 16, and each group shares up to 8,300 buffer credits. Every port starts with 500, and a single port can draw up to 8,270 from its group when an inter-switch link needs the depth.
Air moves from the back of the chassis and leaves at the port side, 50 CFM at 25°C and up to 100 CFM. Replacement fans and supplies come in separate exhaust and intake versions, so the spares stock has to follow this direction.
Two 650W AC supplies feed a switch that draws 251W typical with 24 optics and 290W at most. Supplies, the fan module and the SFP+ optics are hot-swappable, and NX-OS upgrades can run as In-Service Software Upgrades.
The switch can run as a full fabric switch with its own zoning and name server, or in NPV mode under a SAN core director. FC-NVMe and SCSI traffic share the same 32G links with no hardware change.
Application Scenarios
Below a pair of MDS directors, the switch sits at the top of a server rack in NPV mode and carries 32G host HBA links up to the core fabric.
A midsize site with one all-flash array and a cluster of virtualized hosts can run its whole Fibre Channel SAN on this switch, with initiators and targets on the same 24 active ports.
In rows where the cabled port side of the rack faces the hot aisle, the switch pulls cool air in at the rear and discharges it across the optics and patch cords.

DS-C9148T-24PETK9 and DS-C9148T-24PITK9 ship the same 24 active ports and 24 32G SW optics and differ only in airflow, port-side exhaust against port-side intake, so the rack’s cooling direction decides between them. DS-C9148T-24EK9 is the same exhaust switch with 24 active ports and no optics, which suits sites that already hold 32G or 16G FC optics. Where all 48 ports must be live at delivery, DS-C9148T-48PETK9 ships 48 active ports and 48 optics in place of three M9148T-PL8 licenses. DS-C9148V-24PETK9 keeps exhaust airflow and 24 32G SW optics on the 64G MDS 9148V with 3 Tbps of aggregate bandwidth, and its ports reach 64G only once DS-SFP-FC64G-SW optics replace the bundled ones.
Ordering Checklist
- Exhaust spares: Order replacement supplies as DS-CAC-650W-E= and fan modules as DS-C32S-FAN-E=. DS-CAC-650W-I= and DS-C32S-FAN-I= are the port-side intake parts for the other airflow direction.
- Port activation: Add one M9148T-PL8 for each 8 ports beyond the first 24, or M9148T-PL8T when those ports also need 32G SW optics. The bundle activates only 24 of the 48 ports.
- Power cords: Select cords for the two 650W AC supplies from the CAB-9K10A regional series, CAB-9K12A-NA, CAB-250V-10A-BR or the CAB-C15-CBN cabinet jumpers. The supplies take a C15 cord connector.
- Optional software: Add Enterprise Package M9100ENT1K9= or L-M9100ENT1K9= when the fabric needs IVR, FC-SP, port security or traffic encryption. The package is a separate per-switch license and is not part of the bundle.
- Accessory kit: DS-9148T-KIT-CSCO ships as standard; change it to DS-9148T-KIT-EM or DS-9148T-KIT-HDS for Dell/EMC or HDS racks.
