DS-C9148V-24PETK9 Description
The DS-C9148V-24PETK9 is a Cisco MDS 9148V 64G Fibre Channel switch for all-flash SAN access in racks with port-side exhaust cooling. The 1RU switch has 48 SFP+ ports at 8, 16, 32 or 64 Gbps, with 24 ports active, 24 Cisco 32G shortwave optics and 3 Tbps of aggregate bandwidth. Ports beyond the first 24 need M9148V-PL8 licenses in 8-port steps, and the Premier and Advantage subscriptions are optional.

Product Performance
Key Features
Each port has 64 Gbps of dedicated bandwidth, and the chassis totals 3 Tbps of full-duplex aggregate bandwidth.
Each group holds up to 24,000 buffer credits, with 1,000 per port by default and 16,000 on a single port. A PortChannel combines up to 24 links.
Twenty-four of the 48 SFP+ ports are active and fitted with Cisco 32G shortwave optics. M9148V-PL8 licenses activate the rest in steps of 8.
The 64G ports accept existing 32G or 16G optics, and 64G shortwave and longwave optics are supported, with the longwave type reaching 10 km.
Four fans and two power supplies keep air moving from the back of the chassis toward the ports. The supplies come as 500W AC or 1200W types, and the air inlet has to sit in the cold aisle.
SAN Analytics and telemetry are built in. The optional Premier subscription adds Enterprise, NDFC and SAN Analytics, and Advantage adds Enterprise and NDFC.
Application Scenarios
Hosts and all-flash arrays connect at the fabric edge, where the built-in SAN Analytics and telemetry give visibility into the traffic of the first 24 active ports.
A storage network that is moving workloads to NVMe over Fibre Channel can use the switch, which is NVMe/FC ready, as the access layer.
A team that runs 32G links today can start with the included 32G shortwave optics and later fit 64G optics, because the ports autosense 8 to 64 Gbps.

DS-C9148V-24PETK9 and DS-C9148V-24PEVK9 share 24 active ports and exhaust airflow, but DS-C9148V-24PEVK9 ships Cisco 64G SW optics where DS-C9148V-24PETK9 ships 32G SW optics, so links that run at 64G from day one need DS-C9148V-24PEVK9. Racks built for port-side intake airflow need DS-C9148V-24PITK9, which keeps the same 24 active ports and 32G SW optics. A SAN map that needs all 48 ports active at delivery moves to DS-C9148V-48PETK9 with 48 active ports and 48 32G SW optics; otherwise M9148V-PL8 adds ports in 8-port steps. All four list MDS NX-OS 9.3(1) or later.
Ordering Checklist
- Airflow of spares: Order replacement PSU DS-CAC-500W-E= and fan module DS-C32S-FAN-E= to match the port-side exhaust airflow. Intake and exhaust PSU and fan PIDs are separate parts, and a mismatched part reverses the airflow of the chassis.
- Power supply type: Choose 500W AC (DS-CAC-500W-E=) or the 1200W DS-CAC-1200W=, which uses a CAB-HVAC-C14-2M cord. The datasheet lists both 500W and 1200W options for the two supplies, and the bundle line does not state which one ships.
- Port growth: Add M9148V-PL8 for ports beyond the 24 active ones. The bundle ships with 24 active ports, and every port beyond 24 needs its own license line.
- Subscription: Add Premier (M91VXK9-P-1Y, -3Y, -5Y) or Advantage (M91VXK9-A-1Y, -3Y, -5Y), direct or -OSM channel. Both subscriptions are optional, so the bundle PID does not include Enterprise, NDFC or SAN Analytics.
