DS-C9132T-24PISK9 Description
The DS-C9132T-24PISK9 is a Cisco MDS 9132T 32-Gbps Fibre Channel switch for SAN access racks that take cooling air in at the port side. The switch has 24 active Fibre Channel ports with 24 DS-SFP-FC16G-SW 16G shortwave optics, 1024 Gbps of aggregate bandwidth, four fans and two 650W power supplies. The Enterprise Package is included, and the last eight of the 32 platform ports stay inactive until the 8-port On-Demand Activation license is added.

Product Performance
Key Features
Air enters at the port side and flows front to back, which puts the rack’s cold aisle on the cabling side. The power supplies and fan modules for this chassis follow the same intake direction.
Each active port has a DS-SFP-FC16G-SW optic. At 16G the optics reach 100 m on OM3 and 125 m on OM4 or OM5 multimode fiber.
The ports autosense 4, 8, 16 and 32 Gbps. Replacing an optic with DS-SFP-FC32G-SW lifts that link to 32G without changing the switch.
IVR, QoS, FC-SP, traffic encryption, VSAN-based access control and fabric binding are licensed across all switch ports, so none of them needs a separate license.
Each 16-port group shares up to 8300 buffer credits, with 500 per port by default and up to 8270 on a single port. The larger allocation helps inter-switch links that span longer distances.
Two hot-swappable 650W supplies are installed, while the maximum system power is 180W. Either supply is rated well above that figure.
Application Scenarios
In a server rack whose cold aisle faces the cabling side, the switch connects hosts and storage arrays at 16G over multimode fiber while its fans draw air in across the ports.
A SAN that routes traffic between VSANs or authenticates devices with FC-SP relies on the Enterprise Package already present on the switch, which also covers QoS, traffic encryption and fabric binding.
An edge that connects 24 host and array links today can enable the last eight ports later, which brings the same switch to its 32-port maximum.

DS-C9132T-24PISK9 and DS-C9132T-24PESK9 are the same 24-port Enterprise bundle with 24 16G shortwave optics, four fans and two power supplies, separated only by airflow: this SKU is port-side intake and DS-C9132T-24PESK9 is port-side exhaust, each with its own -I or -E power supply and fan spares. Links that must run at 32G from day one move to DS-C9132T-24PITK9, which carries 32G optics and no Enterprise license. A first phase of 8 active ports can start from DS-C9132T-8PMISK9, and projects that buy optics and licenses separately can start from the intake base module DS-C9132T-MIK9. Beyond 24 ports, M9132T-PL8= adds the last eight.
Ordering Checklist
- Airflow and spares: This is a port-side intake chassis; order DS-CAC-650W-I= and DS-C32S-FAN-I= as power supply and fan spares. The -E spares are for port-side exhaust chassis and would reverse the airflow of this switch.
- Enterprise package: The order description already includes it, so leave M9100-ENT1K9= off the order. A second Enterprise line duplicates a license the bundle already carries.
- Port activation: 24 ports are active at order; add M9132T-PL8= (or the Smart license M9132T-PL8-SL=) to reach 32. Without the 8-port activation the last eight ports stay inactive.
- Optics: 24 x DS-SFP-FC16G-SW are included; links that must run at 32G need DS-SFP-FC32G-SW instead. The included 16G optics hold those links at 16G.
