DS-C9148T-48PETK9 Description
The DS-C9148T-48PETK9 is a Cisco MDS 9148T 32G Fibre Channel switch for fully populated SAN edge racks that exhaust air at the port side. The 1RU switch has 48 SFP+ ports at 4, 8, 16 or 32 Gbps, all 48 active, with 48 Cisco 32G shortwave optics and 1.5 Tbps of aggregate bandwidth. Because every port is already active, no M9148T-PL8 upgrade license is needed to reach 48 ports.

Key Features
The full 48-port count is usable at delivery. No port-activation licensing sits between the switch and a completely cabled rack.
Forty-eight Cisco 32G shortwave optics are included. At 32 Gbps they reach 70 m over OM3 and 100 m over OM4 or OM5 fiber.
Air moves from the back of the chassis toward the ports. Fan modules and power supplies of the exhaust type keep that direction when parts are replaced.
Every port has 32 Gbps of dedicated bandwidth, and the three groups of 16 ports share up to 8,300 buffer credits each, 1.5 Tbps in aggregate.
Two 650W AC supplies power the switch. A typical 297W is drawn with 48 32G shortwave optics fitted, against 217W idle with no optics.
The Enterprise Package and the SAN Insights Package are separate licenses. The switch runs Cisco MDS NX-OS 8.3(1) or later with Cisco DCNM 11(0) or later.
Application Scenarios
A rack of dual-attached servers can use all 48 ports from the first day, with the included 32G shortwave optics running over multimode fiber to the hosts and arrays.
As the edge of a larger fabric, the switch sends inter-switch links toward the core in port channels of up to 16 links, so a failed member does not take the connection down.
In a rack where the port side faces the hot aisle, the port-side exhaust fans move air from the back of the chassis toward the ports.

DS-C9148T-48PETK9 and DS-C9148T-48PITK9 both ship 48 active ports and 48 included 32G SW optics and differ only in airflow: DS-C9148T-48PETK9 is port-side exhaust and DS-C9148T-48PITK9 is port-side intake, which racks built for intake airflow need. A first deployment that needs only 24 active ports and 24 optics can start on DS-C9148T-24PETK9 (exhaust) or DS-C9148T-24PITK9 (intake) and reach 32, 40 or 48 active ports later with M9148T-PL8 licenses, 8 ports at a time. All four bundles list Cisco MDS NX-OS 8.3(1) or later.
Ordering Checklist
- Airflow of spares: Order replacement PSU DS-CAC-650W-E= and fan module DS-C32S-FAN-E= to match the port-side exhaust airflow. Intake and exhaust PSU and fan PIDs are separate parts, and a mismatched part reverses the airflow of the chassis.
- Power cords: Select a region cord from the CAB-9K10A-* series, CAB-9K12A-NA or CAB-250V-10A-BR, or a CAB-C15-CBN cabinet jumper. The two 650W AC supplies need cords that fit the site’s outlet or cabinet PDU.
- Optional software: Add Enterprise Package M9100ENT1K9= or SAN Insights Package L-D-M91S-AXK9= if the fabric needs them. These packages are listed as separate Table 2 licenses and are not part of the bundle PID.
