DS-C9148V-48PEVK9 Description
The DS-C9148V-48PEVK9 is a Cisco MDS 9148V Series 64G Fibre Channel switch for SAN edge racks that connect 64G arrays and hosts. The 1RU switch has 48 active SFP+ ports, 3 Tbps of aggregate bandwidth and 48 Cisco 64G shortwave optics, so each port can run at its full 64 Gbps of dedicated bandwidth. Airflow is port-side exhaust, and the power supplies and fan trays must be the exhaust type.

Key Features
The 48 included shortwave optics are rated for 64 Gbps, so the switch needs no optic purchase before 64G hosts and arrays can link.
The chassis switches 3 Tbps full duplex, enough to keep 64 Gbps available to each of the 48 ports at the same time.
All 48 ports are active at shipment, so the chassis is fully usable without the 8-port upgrade licenses that smaller bundles use.
Air leaves through the port side. Exhaust-type power supplies and fan trays keep the direction uniform, and the 1200W supply supports both directions.
Each 24-port group holds up to 24,000 buffer credits. A single port can take up to 16,000, which supports longer links than the 1000 default.
With 48 64G optics at 50 percent traffic the switch draws 295W at 110V and 286W at 220V, measured at 25C with two supplies and four fans.
Application Scenarios
Storage arrays with 64G Fibre Channel controller ports attach directly to the switch and keep the full 64 Gbps on every link.
In a server row running NVMe over Fibre Channel, hosts with 64G adapters connect to the switch over multimode fiber, with all 48 ports ready to cable.
Racks whose cable face sits in the hot aisle use the port-side exhaust airflow, which sends warm air out through the ports.

DS-C9148V-48PEVK9 ships with 48 active ports and 48 x 64G SW optics, while DS-C9148V-48PETK9 has the same exhaust airflow and port count with 48 x 32G SW optics. Endpoints that run 64G Fibre Channel need the 64G SW optics in this bundle; the 64G-capable ports also run 32G or 16G optics, so DS-C9148V-48PETK9 is enough when links stay at 32G. A site that wants 64G optics but only 24 ports on day one uses DS-C9148V-24PEVK9, which adds ports in 8-port steps with M9148V-PL8. Racks that need port-side intake airflow use DS-C9148V-48PIVK9, with the same 48 ports and 64G SW optics.
Ordering Checklist
- Airflow-matched spares: Order the port-side exhaust parts DS-CAC-500W-E= power supply and DS-C32S-FAN-E= fan tray. Spares of the other direction do not match the chassis, and the intake side must sit in the cold aisle or the switch can overheat.
- Power supply type: Choose two supplies per switch: 500W AC, or DS-CAC-1200W= for AC, HVAC or HVDC with bidirectional airflow. The ordering line lists only 2 PSUs; the 500W and 1200W supplies take different input voltages, and DC feeds from 192 to 400V need the 1200W supply.
- Power cords: Select CAB-9K12A-NA or the regional CAB-9K10A cord for the 500W supplies, and CAB-HVAC-C14-2M for the 1200W supply. The supply type decides which cord plugs in at the rack PDU.
- Included optics: 48 x DS-SFP-FC64G-SW are in the bundle. Single-mode links need DS-SFP-FC64G-LW= or a 32G longwave optic such as DS-SFP-FC32G-LW=, because shortwave multimode optics do not reach single-mode distances.
- Software subscription: Add Premier (M91VXK9-P-1Y/3Y/5Y/7Y) or Advantage (M91VXK9-A-1Y/3Y/5Y); OSM channel orders use the -OSM PIDs. The bundle PIDs include neither subscription, and only Premier adds SAN Analytics.
