DS-C9148V-48PETK9 Description
The DS-C9148V-48PETK9 is a Cisco MDS 9148V Series 64G Fibre Channel switch for SAN fabrics in racks where air leaves through the port side. The 1RU switch has 48 active SFP+ ports at 8, 16, 32 and 64 Gbps, 3 Tbps of aggregate bandwidth and 48 Cisco 32G shortwave optics. Links on the included optics run at up to 32 Gbps, and 64 Gbps operation needs 64G shortwave optics on the port.

Product Performance
Key Features
Air flows from back to front and leaves through the port side. Power supplies and fan trays of the exhaust type keep the chassis airflow consistent.
No port-activation licenses are needed to use the whole chassis, so every SFP+ port can be cabled on the first day.
Each port ships with a 32G shortwave optic on dual LC connectors at 850 nm, which covers 70 m on OM3 and 100 m on OM4 or OM5 multimode fiber.
One port channel can bundle up to 24 physical links with load balancing, which suits inter-switch trunks that must grow without re-cabling to a new group.
Each port negotiates 8, 16, 32 or 64 Gbps, so hosts and arrays of different generations connect without changing the chassis.
With 48 32G optics at 50 percent traffic the switch draws 247W at 110V and 240W at 220V, measured at 25C with two supplies and four fans.
Application Scenarios
Where the port side of the rack faces the hot aisle, the switch exhausts air through the ports, so its airflow follows the room’s cooling layout.
A server row can attach up to 48 hosts and array controller ports at once, since every port is active and carries a 32G shortwave optic from the start.
Beside older 8 and 16 Gbps equipment, the autosensing ports link both generations, and 16G and 8G optics are supported for the older links.

DS-C9148V-48PETK9 ships with all 48 ports active and 48 x 32G SW optics, while DS-C9148V-24PETK9 has the same port-side exhaust airflow but only 24 active ports and 24 x 32G SW optics. A 24-port bundle grows to 48 ports with M9148V-PL8 licenses in 8-port steps, so DS-C9148V-24PETK9 suits a phased rollout and DS-C9148V-48PETK9 suits a full 48-link build. Racks that need port-side intake airflow use DS-C9148V-48PITK9, which keeps 48 ports and 32G optics. When the bundle itself must include 64G SW optics, DS-C9148V-48PEVK9 has the same 48 ports and exhaust airflow; the 64G-capable ports run 32G optics too, so 32G SW is enough while endpoints stay at 32G.
Ordering Checklist
- Airflow-matched spares: Order the port-side exhaust parts DS-CAC-500W-E= power supply and DS-C32S-FAN-E= fan tray. Spares of the other direction do not match the chassis, and the intake side must sit in the cold aisle or the switch can overheat.
- Power supply type: Choose two supplies per switch: 500W AC, or DS-CAC-1200W= for AC, HVAC or HVDC with bidirectional airflow. The ordering line lists only 2 PSUs; the 500W and 1200W supplies take different input voltages, and DC feeds from 192 to 400V need the 1200W supply.
- Power cords: Select CAB-9K12A-NA or the regional CAB-9K10A cord for the 500W supplies, and CAB-HVAC-C14-2M for the 1200W supply. The supply type decides which cord plugs in at the rack PDU.
- Included optics: 48 x DS-SFP-FC32G-SW are in the bundle. Longer single-mode links need DS-SFP-FC32G-LW= or DS-SFP-FC32G-ELW=, and 64G links need DS-SFP-FC64G-SW=, because shortwave multimode optics do not reach single-mode distances.
- Software subscription: Add Premier (M91VXK9-P-1Y/3Y/5Y/7Y) or Advantage (M91VXK9-A-1Y/3Y/5Y); OSM channel orders use the -OSM PIDs. The bundle PIDs include neither subscription, and only Premier adds SAN Analytics.
