The DS-C9132T-8PMETK9 is a Cisco MDS 9132T 32-Gbps Fibre Channel fixed SAN switch for connecting server racks to a SAN core with port-side exhaust airflow. The switch has 8 active ports, eight 32G shortwave optics, two fan modules and one power supply, and its ports autosense 4, 8, 16 or 32 Gbps within 1024 Gbps of full-duplex bandwidth. Ports past the first 8 stay inactive until an 8-port activation license or the 16-port expansion module is added, up to 32 active ports.

Product Performance
Key Features
The first eight active ports arrive populated with 32G shortwave SFP+ optics on dual LC connectors, so the initial links need no separate optic purchase. Reach is 20 m on OM2, 70 m on OM3 and 100 m on OM4 or OM5.
The 16-port SFP+ base block and one 16-port expansion slot take the switch from 8 to as many as 32 active ports. An 8-port activation license adds ports in steps of eight, and the expansion module adds 16.
Every port has 32 Gbps of dedicated bandwidth, which gives 1024 Gbps of full-duplex capacity across the chassis. Ports autosense down to 16, 8 and 4 Gbps, so older host adapters connect without a speed change elsewhere.
Each 16-port group holds up to 8300 buffer credits, with 500 per port by default and up to 8270 on a single port. That headroom lets one port sustain a longer inter-switch link.
Air leaves toward the port side, the opposite of the intake variant, and the supply and fan spares must follow the same direction. Two fan modules and one 650W AC supply ship with the switch.
A PortChannel can bundle up to 16 physical links into one logical ISL with load balancing. Traffic to the core then keeps flowing if a single link fails.
Application Scenarios
In a server row, the switch connects host Fibre Channel adapters at up to 32 Gbps and carries their traffic to the SAN core over inter-switch links.
A storage cabinet built around port-side exhaust airflow can hold the switch next to the arrays it serves, with the fans pulling air out toward the port side.
Where hosts and arrays sit within 70 m on OM3 or 100 m on OM4 fiber, the eight 32G shortwave optics cover the first links without extra media.

DS-C9132T-8PMETK9 and DS-C9132T-8PMITK9 carry the same eight active ports and eight 32G SW optics and differ only in airflow: this model is port-side exhaust, while DS-C9132T-8PMITK9 is port-side intake, so racks built around intake cooling should order the latter. Sites that need more than eight links on day one should look at DS-C9132T-24PETK9 for exhaust or DS-C9132T-24PITK9 for intake, which each ship 24 active ports, 24 optics, four fans and two power supplies, but without an Enterprise license. Growing the eight-port bundle instead takes an M9132T-PL8 license for up to 16 ports, or an M9XT-FC1632 expansion module for up to 24.
Ordering Checklist
- Airflow spares: Order the port-side exhaust spares DS-CAC-650W-E= power supply and DS-C32S-FAN-E= fan module, matching this switch. The intake spares are different PIDs, and a mismatched fan or supply reverses airflow in the rack.
- Port activation: The bundle starts with 8 active ports; M9132T-PL8 adds 8 ports for a maximum of 16, and the M9XT-FC1632 expansion module adds 16 for a maximum of 24. Ports beyond the factory 8 stay unusable until the license or module is on the order.
- Extra optics: The bundle carries 8 x 32G SW optics (DS-SFP-FC32G-SW); single-mode links need DS-SFP-FC32G-LW=. Only eight optics ship, so additional active ports or long-reach links need separate optic lines.
- Enterprise package: The order description lists no Enterprise license; M9100-ENT1K9= or L-M9100ENT1K9= covers IVR, QoS, FC-SP, port security and traffic encryption. Those features are unavailable unless the package is ordered as its own line.
- Power cord: Pick a country-specific cord from the data sheet list, such as CAB-9K12A-NA or CAB-9K10A-EU, for the C14 plug and C15 socket. The data sheet does not state which cord ships with the 8-port models.
