The DS-C9132T-8MESTK9 is a Cisco MDS 9132T 32-Gbps Fibre Channel switch for the first phase of a SAN in racks with port-side exhaust airflow. The switch has 8 active Fibre Channel ports with four 32G and four 16G shortwave optics, 1024 Gbps of aggregate bandwidth, two fans and one 650W power supply, plus 1-year DCNM and SAN Insights terms. The Enterprise Package is not part of the bundle, and ports beyond the first 8 need the 8-port On-Demand Activation license or the 16-port expansion module.

Product Performance
Key Features
The chassis has 16 SFP+ base ports and a 16-port expansion slot, with 8 base ports active. Any eight of the base ports can be enabled.
The mix covers a few 32G links and several 16G links without extra transceivers. At 16G the shortwave optics reach 100 m on OM3 and 125 m on OM4 or OM5 fiber.
Air moves back to front and leaves toward the ports, so the hot aisle sits on the cabling side of the rack.
The bundle includes both software terms for one year. After that, DCNM and SAN Insights continue only under separately licensed terms.
The 8-port On-Demand Activation license raises the count to 16, and the 16-port expansion module raises it to 24. A 16-port configuration with the module, or a 24-port configuration with the license, reaches 32.
A single 650W AC supply and two fans are installed, and the chassis takes up to two supplies. The 180W maximum system power sits far below one supply’s rating.
Application Scenarios
A small storage rack with port-side exhaust cooling uses the 8 active ports for its first host, array and inter-switch links.
Where new 32G arrays sit beside 16G hosts, the four 32G and four 16G shortwave optics cover both link speeds over multimode fiber.
An operations team that manages the fabric with Cisco DCNM and watches it with SAN Insights has both covered by 1-year terms from the first day.

DS-C9132T-8MESTK9 differs from DS-C9132T-8PMESK9 in optics and subscriptions: it includes four 32G and four 16G shortwave optics plus 1-year DCNM and SAN Insights terms, while DS-C9132T-8PMESK9 carries eight 16G optics and lists no subscription. Both are exhaust-airflow 8-port bundles with two fans and one power supply, so a site with all 16G links needs only DS-C9132T-8PMESK9. Sites that need 24 active ports on day one move to DS-C9132T-24PETK9 with 24 32G optics, or DS-C9132T-24PESK9 with 24 16G optics and the Enterprise package. Cisco lists no intake version of this bundle, so intake racks use the 8-port bundles without the subscriptions.
Ordering Checklist
- Airflow and spares: This is a port-side exhaust chassis; order DS-CAC-650W-E= and DS-C32S-FAN-E= as power supply and fan spares. The -I spares are for port-side intake chassis and would reverse the airflow of this switch.
- Subscription terms: The order description includes 1-year DCNM and SAN Insights terms; the Enterprise package is not listed, and M9100-ENT1K9= adds it. IVR, QoS or traffic encryption need the separate Enterprise line.
- Port expansion: 8 ports are active at order; M9132T-PL8= adds 8 more, or the M9XT-FC1632= expansion module adds 16 active ports. Links beyond the first 8 stay inactive until the activation or module is ordered.
