DS-C9148T-48PITK9 Description
The DS-C9148T-48PITK9 is a Cisco MDS 9148T 32G Fibre Channel switch for SAN edge racks that supply cooling air to the port side. The 1RU switch has 48 SFP+ ports at 4, 8, 16 or 32 Gbps, with all 48 active, 48 Cisco 32G shortwave optics and 1.5 Tbps of aggregate bandwidth. All 48 ports are active at delivery, so the M9148T-PL8 port upgrade licenses do not apply to this switch.

Product Performance
Key Features
All 48 SFP+ ports are active when the switch arrives, so the first cabling pass can use the whole chassis.
The 48 Cisco 32G shortwave optics support 8, 16 and 32 Gbps. At 32 Gbps the reach is 70 m on OM3 and 100 m on OM4 or OM5.
Cooling air enters at the port side. The fans and power supplies in the rack have to use the same intake direction as the chassis.
Port groups of 16 each hold up to 8,300 buffer credits, with 500 credits per port by default, and PortChannels combine up to 16 links.
Two 650W AC supplies rated 80 Plus Platinum take 100 to 240 VAC at 50 to 60 Hz. A fully optic-equipped switch draws a typical 297W.
The switch runs Cisco MDS NX-OS 8.3(1) or later and is managed with Cisco DCNM 11(0) or later, with VSAN, NPV, IVR and port channels available.
Application Scenarios
A newly built storage or server rack uses all 48 ports on day one, with hosts and arrays connected over multimode fiber on the included shortwave optics.
Data centers that position the port side of the rack toward the cold aisle rely on the intake airflow, which pulls cool air in from the port side.
SAN designers spread hosts, arrays and port-channel members across the three 16-port groups, keeping each group’s buffer credits for the links that need them.

DS-C9148T-48PITK9 and DS-C9148T-48PETK9 both ship 48 active ports with 48 included 32G SW optics and differ only in airflow: DS-C9148T-48PITK9 is port-side intake and DS-C9148T-48PETK9 is port-side exhaust, which is the choice for racks built for exhaust airflow. A deployment that starts at 24 active ports with 24 optics can order DS-C9148T-24PITK9 and add M9148T-PL8 licenses in 8-port steps up to 48. DS-C9148T-24IK9 is the same intake switch with 24 active ports and no factory optic bundle, so it suits sites that buy the optics separately.
Ordering Checklist
- Airflow of spares: Order replacement PSU DS-CAC-650W-I= and fan module DS-C32S-FAN-I= to match the port-side intake airflow. Intake and exhaust PSU and fan PIDs are separate parts, and a mismatched part reverses the airflow of the chassis.
- Power cords: Select a region cord from the CAB-9K10A-* series, CAB-9K12A-NA or CAB-250V-10A-BR, or a CAB-C15-CBN cabinet jumper. The two 650W AC supplies need cords that fit the site’s outlet or cabinet PDU.
- Optional software: Add Enterprise Package M9100ENT1K9= or SAN Insights Package L-D-M91S-AXK9= if the fabric needs them. These packages are listed as separate Table 2 licenses and are not part of the bundle PID.
