DS-SFP-FC32G-SW Description
The DS-SFP-FC32G-SW is a Cisco MDS 9000 Series 32-Gbps Fibre Channel shortwave SFP+ transceiver for short multimode SAN links inside a data center. The transceiver autosenses 8, 16 and 32 Gbps on a dual LC interface at 850 nm, and its 32G reach is 20 m on OM2, 70 m on OM3 and 100 m on OM4 or OM5. On the MDS 9124V, 9148V and 9396V the optic is supported only from release 9.3(x), not on 9.2(x).

Application Scenarios
In a data center row, an MDS 9000 Series switch connects to a 32G array over duplex LC multimode fiber. The 32G reach of 70 m on OM3 and 100 m on OM4 or OM5 covers links between adjacent racks.
Older OM2 cabling between neighboring cabinets can still carry 32 Gbps over 20 m. The same transceiver drops to 16 or 8 Gbps on the longer OM2 distances of 35 m and 50 m.

DS-SFP-FC32G-SW is the 850 nm multimode model: at 32 Gbps it reaches 20 m on OM2, 70 m on OM3 and 100 m on OM4 or OM5, and the datasheet lists no OM1 reach at that rate. Any longer run, or any single-mode OS2 route, needs DS-SFP-FC32G-LW at 10 km, which transmits at -5.0 to 2.0 dBm against -6.2 to 2.0 dBm here. A route that must go beyond 10 km needs DS-SFP-FC32G-ELW, documented for 25 km. Cisco lists DS-SFP-FC32G-SW on MDS 9124V, 9148V and 9396V only from release 9.3(x), not on 9.2(x).
Ordering Checklist
- Host support: Confirm the host is an MDS 9132T, 9148T, 9396T or 9220i switch, or a DS-X9648-1536K9 or DS-X9648-3072K9 module. The 32G optic is supported on fewer MDS hosts than the 16G optics, so check the matrix.
- Fiber grade: Match the installed multimode grade (OM2, OM3, OM4 or OM5) to the 32G reach of 20, 70 or 100 m. The shortwave optic links only over multimode fiber, and reach depends on the grade.
- Spare PID: Order DS-SFP-FC32G-SW= when the order is for a spare, because each spare is listed under its own PID with an equals sign.
