QSFP-100G-LR4-S Description
The QSFP-100G-LR4-S is a Cisco 100GBASE-LR4 QSFP28 transceiver for 100G links of up to 10 km between buildings or rooms over duplex single-mode fiber. The module uses four wavelengths from 1295 to 1309 nm on duplex LC connectors, draws up to 4.0W and operates from 0 to 70°C. The module runs IEEE 100GBASE-LR4 without FEC and supports only PC or UPC patch cords.

QSFP-100G-LR4-S is the IEEE 100GBASE-LR4 optic of this group: four wavelengths (1295, 1300, 1304 and 1309 nm) reach 10 km over duplex LC single-mode fiber with no FEC, while QSFP-100G-LR-S covers the same 10 km on a single wavelength with onboard PAM4 modulation and FEC, so it suits only links where both ends are LR1 optics. Sites that need -40 to 85 degrees C operation, such as unconditioned outdoor or cabinet locations, order QSFP-100G-LR4-I, which keeps the LR4 profile and the 4.0W power draw. Spans beyond 10 km move to QSFP-100G-ER4L-S, which reaches 40 km when the host provides FEC and 30 km without it, at 4.5W per module.
Ordering Checklist
- Host support: Confirm the target switch or router, line card and QSFP28 port are on Cisco’s 100 Gigabit Ethernet Transceiver Modules Compatibility Matrix for this optic. A host can reject an optic that fits the cage but is not on its compatibility list.
- Fiber and connector: Use G.652 single-mode fiber with duplex LC patch cords. The optic has LC ports and does not use MPO cabling.
- Connector polish: Order PC or UPC LC patch cords, not APC. The connector rule for this QSFP-100G family allows only PC or UPC jumpers, with PSM4 as the one exception.
- Temperature class: Keep the install location within 0 to 70 degrees C. The commercial-temperature part is not rated for colder or hotter cabinets.
