QDD-400G-FR4-S Description
The QDD-400G-FR4-S is a Cisco 400GBASE-FR4 QSFP-DD optical transceiver for 400G links of up to 2 km over duplex single-mode fiber in a data center. The module multiplexes four CWDM wavelengths from 1270 to 1330 nm onto a duplex LC PC/UPC connector, tolerates 4 dB of insertion loss and draws up to 12 W. The module accepts only PC or UPC patch cords, and FEC is performed on the host platform.

QDD-400G-FR4-S is the duplex LC single-mode 400G optic rated for 2 km with a 4 dB loss budget, while QDD-400G-LR4-S uses the same LC cabling at 10 km and 6.3 dB, so links beyond 2 km or with more than 4 dB of patching loss need QDD-400G-LR4-S. A QDD-400G-FR4-S paired with a QDD-400G-LR4-S links at 2 km, not 10 km. Plants cabled with MPO-12 parallel single-mode fiber need QDD-400G-DR4-S at 500 m and 3 dB, or QDD-4X100G-FR-S for 4 x 100GBASE-FR1 breakout at 2 km per 100G lane.
Ordering Checklist
- Host support: Confirm the host is Cisco Nexus 3408 family (N3K-C3408-S) or Cisco UCS 6652 Fabric Interconnect, where the optic is uplink-only 400GbE media. A host can reject an optic that fits the cage but is not on its support list.
- Patch cord polish: Order duplex LC patch cords with PC or UPC polish. Only PC or UPC cords are accepted on this optic; APC is reserved for five other QDD parts.
- Trunk cabling: Connect LC patch cords into an LC cassette that feeds an OS2 MPO-12 trunk, Method B, female to female. The cabling guide builds the FR4 channel this way.
