QDD-400G-SR4.2-BD Description
The QDD-400G-SR4.2-BD is a Cisco 400GBASE-SR4.2 QSFP-DD optical transceiver for short-reach 400GE data center links over parallel multimode fiber. The module reaches 70 m on OM3, 100 m on OM4 and 150 m on OM5 through an MPO-12 UPC connector, transmits at 855 nm and 908 nm, and operates from 0 to 75°C. In a 4 x 100GE breakout the 100G side must use QSFP-100G-SR1.2 modules, and the host platform performs FEC.

Application Scenarios
In a data hall, the module joins 400G leaf and spine ports over MPO-12 multimode trunk cabling, with up to 100 m of reach on OM4 fiber.
At the end of a server row, a 400G switch port can split into four 100GE links toward QSFP-100G-SR1.2 modules, as supported on 400Gb ports in Cisco ACI fabrics.

QDD-400G-SR4.2-BD runs 400G over parallel multimode fiber on an MPO-12 UPC connector and reaches 70 m on OM3, 100 m on OM4 and 150 m on OM5, while QDD-400G-BD uses a duplex LC UPC connector and reaches only 50 m, 70 m and 100 m on the same fiber grades, so a duplex LC patch plant moves the order to QDD-400G-BD. Links that must split into 2 x 200GE or 8 x 50GE need QDD-400G-SR8-S, which uses an MPO-16 APC connector, whereas QDD-400G-SR4.2-BD breaks out to 4 x 100GE toward QSFP-100G-SR1.2. Runs beyond 150 m, or any single-mode plant, call for QDD-400G-DR4-S, which reaches 500 m over MPO-12 APC single-mode fiber.
Ordering Checklist
- Cisco ACI hosts: Use the optic in Cisco ACI fabrics with 400Gb ports, which support QDD-400G-SR4.2-BD. Other hosts are not confirmed by the data sheet and need a check in the Transceiver Module Group compatibility matrix.
- Patch cords: Order MPO-12 multimode patch cords with PC or UPC polish, not APC. Only QDD-400G-SR8-S, QDD-400G-VR4, QDD-400G-DR4-S, QDD-4X100G-FR-S and QDD-4X100G-LR-S take APC MPO cords.
- Breakout far end: Fit QSFP-100G-SR1.2 on each 100G port, and do not fit QDD-400G-SR4.2-BD on both ends of a breakout link. The link does not come up with QDD-400G-SR4.2-BD on both sides of a breakout.
