QSFP-100G-PSM4-S Description
The QSFP-100G-PSM4-S is a Cisco 100GBASE PSM4 QSFP transceiver for 100G links of up to 500 m over parallel single-mode fiber in data centers. The module uses a 12-fiber MPO-12 connector at a nominal 1310 nm (1295 to 1325 nm), draws up to 3.5W and operates from 0 to 70°C. The module requires APC MPO patch cords rather than PC or UPC connectors.

Application Scenarios
Between rows in a data hall, the module joins 100G QSFP ports on a leaf switch and a spine switch over a 12-fiber single-mode MPO trunk of up to 500 m.
In a cabling plant already built with MPO-12 single-mode trunks and APC connectors, the module plugs into 100G QSFP ports on routers and switches without a conversion to duplex LC.

QSFP-100G-PSM4-S is the parallel-fiber single-mode optic of this group: it reaches 500 m over a 12-fiber MPO-12 connection on G.652 fiber, and it is the only QSFP-100G module that requires APC MPO patch cords. QSFP-100G-DR-S also reaches 500 m over single-mode fiber but on duplex LC with PAM4 and FEC at 4.3W, so a plant already cabled with LC pairs should use it instead. Links beyond 500 m on LC single-mode move to QSFP-100G-CWDM4-S, which reaches 2 km on four wavelengths at 3.5W. Multimode MPO-12 plants with runs up to 100 m on OM4 or OM5 take QSFP-100G-SR4-S, which is also PC or UPC rather than APC.
Ordering Checklist
- Host support: Confirm the target switch or router, line card and QSFP28 port are on Cisco’s 100 Gigabit Ethernet Transceiver Modules Compatibility Matrix for this optic. A host can reject an optic that fits the cage but is not on its compatibility list.
- Patch cords: Order APC MPO-12 patch cords. Every other QSFP-100G optic uses PC or UPC jumpers, so a PC or UPC MPO cord is the wrong polish for this module.
- Fiber and connector: Provide a 12-fiber single-mode MPO-12 path on G.652 fiber, 500 m or shorter. A duplex LC pair or multimode MPO trunk cannot carry this optic.
