QSFP-100G-FR-S Description
The QSFP-100G-FR-S is a Cisco 100GBASE-FR1 QSFP transceiver for 100G links of up to 2km over duplex LC single-mode fiber. The module sends a single wavelength between 1304.5 and 1317.5 nm with onboard PAM4 modulation and FEC, draws up to 4.3W and operates from 0 to 70 degrees C. The module interoperates with 400GBASE-DR4 optics through fiber breakout cables and accepts PC or UPC patch cords only.

Application Scenarios
A data center campus with halls up to 2km apart can join 100G switch ports over duplex LC single-mode fiber, with the module carrying a single PAM4 wavelength with FEC.
Where a 400G spine port uses a 400GBASE-DR4 optic, the module can sit at the 100G end of a fiber breakout link, and the same module also covers 100GBASE-DR links.

QSFP-100G-FR-S and QSFP-100G-DR-S share duplex LC, one wavelength with PAM4 and FEC, and 4.3W, but QSFP-100G-FR-S reaches 2km against 500m, so any LC run longer than 500m needs QSFP-100G-FR-S. QSFP-100G-CWDM4-S has the same 2km reach with four wavelengths at 3.5W and fits when the far end is a CWDM4 optic rather than FR1. Runs up to 10km move to QSFP-100G-LR-S, a single-wavelength LR1 optic at 4.0W. The datasheet also lists QSFP-100G-FR-S as interoperable with 400GBASE-DR4 optics through breakout fibers, so 400G fan-out designs can use it even where the span is shorter than 2km.
Ordering Checklist
- Host support: Confirm the host switch or router is listed for this optic in the Cisco 100 Gigabit Ethernet Transceiver Modules Compatibility Matrix. The datasheet leaves exact hosts to the matrix, and a QSFP28 cage alone does not make the optic supported.
- Patch cords: Order duplex LC patch cords with PC or UPC connectors, not APC. Only PC or UPC jumpers are allowed on QSFP-100G-FR-S; APC is documented for QSFP-100G-PSM4-S only.
- Breakout from 400G: Add fiber breakout cables if the far end is a 400GBASE-DR4 optic. QSFP-100G-FR-S interoperates with 400GBASE-DR4 only through breakout fibers.
