QDD-400G-DR4-S Description
The QDD-400G-DR4-S is a Cisco 400GBASE-DR4 QSFP-DD optical transceiver for 400G links over parallel single-mode fiber inside a data center. The module reaches 500 m over MPO-12 APC connectors on G.652 fiber at a 1310 nm wavelength, tolerates 3 dB of insertion loss and draws up to 12 W. The module needs APC MPO patch cords, can break out to four 100GE links, and leaves FEC to the host platform.

Application Scenarios
Between leaf and spine rows, the module carries 400GE over OS2 MPO-12 trunks of up to 500 m, with the signal split across four parallel fiber pairs.
A 400G switch port can fan out through the module into four 100GE links that end on QSFP-100G-DR-S, QSFP-100G-FR-S or QSFP-100G-LR-S optics within 500 m.

QDD-400G-DR4-S is the 400G optic for MPO-12 APC parallel single-mode fiber at 500 m with a 3 dB loss budget and 4 x 100G breakout, while QDD-4X100G-FR-S uses the same cabling but carries only 4 x 100GBASE-FR1 at 2 km per 100G lane with a 4 dB budget, so breakout links beyond 500 m move to QDD-4X100G-FR-S. A multimode plant changes the choice to QDD-400G-SR4.2-BD, which reaches 70 m on OM3, 100 m on OM4 and 150 m on OM5 over MPO-12 UPC, or QDD-400G-SR8-S, which uses MPO-16 APC and reaches 70 m on OM3 and 100 m on OM4. Duplex LC single-mode links need QDD-400G-FR4-S or QDD-400G-LR4-S.
Ordering Checklist
- Host support: Confirm the host is Cisco UCS 6652 Fabric Interconnect, where QDD-400G-DR4-S is uplink-only 400GbE media, or Cisco ACI 400Gb ports. A host can reject an optic that fits the cage but is not on its support list.
- Patch cord polish: Order APC MPO-12 patch cords, not PC or UPC. QDD-400G-DR4-S is one of five QDD optics specified with APC MPO cords.
- Trunk cabling: Use a parallel single-mode (OS2) MPO-12 trunk, Method B, male to male. The cabling guide builds the DR4 channel on this trunk.
- Breakout far end: Fit QSFP-100G-DR-S, QSFP-100G-FR-S or QSFP-100G-LR-S on each 100G leg. These are the 100G optics documented for 400Gb ports with this optic.
