QDD-400G-LR4-S Description
The QDD-400G-LR4-S is a Cisco 400G-LR4 QSFP-DD optical transceiver for 400G links of up to 10 km over duplex single-mode fiber between buildings and data center halls. The module uses four CWDM wavelengths from 1270 to 1330 nm on a duplex LC PC/UPC connector, tolerates 6.3 dB of insertion loss, draws up to 12 W and operates from 0 to 75°C. The module extends the 400GBASE-LR4-6km design to 10 km, and FEC is performed on the host platform.

QDD-400G-LR4-S is the 10 km duplex LC single-mode 400G optic with a 6.3 dB loss budget, while QDD-400G-FR4-S uses the same LC cabling but is rated for 2 km and 4 dB, so a short, low-loss run can use QDD-400G-FR4-S. A QDD-400G-LR4-S paired with a QDD-400G-FR4-S links at 2 km and 4 dB, so both ends must be QDD-400G-LR4-S to get 10 km. Where the plant is MPO-12 parallel single-mode fiber, QDD-4X100G-LR-S gives 10 km at 6.3 dB as 4 x 100GBASE-LR1, and QDD-400G-DR4-S gives 500 m at 3 dB with 4 x 100G breakout.
Ordering Checklist
- Host support: Confirm the host is Cisco UCS 6652 Fabric Interconnect, where the optic is uplink-only 400GbE media. A host can reject an optic that fits the cage but is not on its support list.
- Patch cord polish: Order duplex LC patch cords with PC or UPC polish. Only PC or UPC cords are accepted on this optic; APC is reserved for five other QDD parts.
- Trunk cabling: Connect LC patch cords into an LC cassette that feeds an OS2 MPO-12 trunk, Method B, female to female. The cabling guide puts LR4-S on the same channel design as FR4-S.
