DS-SFP-FC8G-LW Description
The DS-SFP-FC8G-LW is a Cisco MDS 9000 Series 2/4/8-Gbps Fibre Channel longwave SFP+ transceiver for SAN links between buildings or distant equipment rooms. The module autosenses 2, 4 and 8 Gbps and runs 1310 nm optics over 9.0-micron single-mode fiber with dual LC connectors, reaches up to 10 km and operates from 0 to 70 degrees C. Support is limited to MDS 9000 Series switch and director ports, and the minimum cable distance is 2 m.

DS-SFP-FC8G-LW and DS-SFP-FC8G-SW share 2/4/8G autosensing, dual LC connectors and the same MDS support columns, and what separates them is the fiber: DS-SFP-FC8G-LW runs at 1310 nm over 9.0-micron single-mode fiber for up to 10 km, while DS-SFP-FC8G-SW runs at 850 nm over multimode fiber and reaches 190 m at 8G on OM4 or OM5. A multimode plant therefore needs DS-SFP-FC8G-SW, since DS-SFP-FC8G-LW does not suit a multimode cable path. Spans beyond 10 km, up to 40 km, move to DS-SFP-FC8G-ER, which uses 1550 nm over the same 9.0-micron single-mode fiber. All three keep a 2 m minimum cable distance, so the fiber type and span decide the model.

- Fiber and connector: Use dual LC patch cords on 9 µm single-mode fiber for 1310 nm at up to 10 km. A multimode patch cord does not suit a 1310 nm longwave optic.
