SFP-10/25G-LR-S Description
The SFP-10/25G-LR-S is a Cisco 10/25GBASE-LR SFP28 transceiver for single-mode fiber links between buildings and equipment rooms. The module reaches 10 km at both 10G and 25G over G.652 single-mode fiber at 1310 nm on a dual LC/PC connector, with a 0 to 70°C case rating and 1.3W maximum power draw. The 25G rate requires RS-FEC on the host port, and patch cords must have PC or UPC end faces because APC is not supported.

Application Scenarios
Between two campus buildings, a Catalyst 9300 or Catalyst 9500 switch uses the module on an SFP28 port to carry 10G or 25G traffic over single-mode fiber runs of up to 10 km.
A data center with Nexus 9300 leaf switches in one hall can run 25G links to Nexus 9500 spine switches in another hall over single-mode fiber, with one module at each end.

SFP-10/25G-LR-S and SFP-10/25G-LR-I share the same 1310 nm optics and 10 km of G.652 single-mode reach, but SFP-10/25G-LR-S is rated 0 to 70°C while SFP-10/25G-LR-I is rated -40 to 85°C. Sites outside 0 to 70°C, CPRI rates 7 to 10, or spans of up to 15 km as an engineered link below 9.3 dB insertion loss with RS-FEC need the industrial module, which Cisco’s TMG host list shows for no Catalyst 9000 family, while SFP-10/25G-LR-S is listed for eight. Multimode plant on OM3 or OM4 calls for SFP-10/25G-CSR-S, which keeps both rates to 300 m or 400 m. Single-mode spans beyond 15 km, up to 40 km, call for SFP-25G-ER-I, which is 25G only.
Ordering Checklist
- Host support: Confirm the target switch or router lists SFP-10/25G-LR-S in the Cisco TMG matrix, with its minimum software release. TMG lists hosts per transceiver PID, so support for another 25G optic does not cover this one.
- Fiber and connector: Use duplex G.652 single-mode fiber with LC patch cords that have PC or UPC end faces, not APC. The optic uses a dual LC/PC connector and does not support APC patch cords.
- RS-FEC on 25G ports: Enable RS-FEC on both host ports of a 25G link. The datasheet requires RS-FEC on the host ports for 25G operation.
- Temperature rating: Keep the module case within 0 to 70°C where it is installed. TMG lists this optic at 0 to 70°C case temperature, the commercial range.
