SFP-25G-SL Description
The SFP-25G-SL is a Cisco 25GBASE-SL SFP28 short-link transceiver for 25G multimode fiber connections of 30 m or less. The module transmits at 850 nm over a duplex LC connector, covers 20 m on OM3 or 30 m on OM4 and OM5 fiber, and draws up to 1.2W within a 0 to 70°C case rating. RS-FEC must be enabled on the host port, and patch cords need PC or UPC end faces because APC is not supported.

In a data center rack, a Nexus 9300 leaf switch connects 25G server adapters such as Intel E810 or Mellanox ConnectX-5 cards over OM4 multimode patching that stays within 30 m.
Inside a Cisco UCS domain, the module links fabric interconnects to blade chassis I/O modules or X-Series fabric modules over 850 nm multimode runs of up to 30 m on OM4.

SFP-25G-SL and SFP-25G-SR-S use the same 850 nm multimode optics, LC connectors and RS-FEC requirement, but SFP-25G-SL stops at 20 m on OM3 and 30 m on OM4 or OM5, against 70 m and 100 m for SFP-25G-SR-S. Runs of 20 m to 70 m on OM3, or 30 m to 100 m on OM4 or OM5, need SFP-25G-SR-S. Multimode runs beyond 100 m move to SFP-10/25G-CSR-S, which reaches 300 m on OM3 and 400 m on OM4 or OM5 with RS-FEC, with 25G reach depending on fiber quality. SFP-10/25G-CSR-S also runs at 10G, which suits ports that have not yet moved to 25G.
