DS-C9148V-48PITK9 Description
The DS-C9148V-48PITK9 is a Cisco MDS 9148V Series 64G Fibre Channel switch for fully populated SAN access racks cooled from the port side. The 1RU switch has 48 active SFP+ ports at 8, 16, 32 and 64 Gbps, 3 Tbps of aggregate bandwidth, two 24-port groups and 48 Cisco 32G shortwave optics. Its port-side intake must face the cold aisle, because air drawn from a hot aisle can overheat the switch and shut it down.

Product Performance
Key Features
Air moves front to back, entering where the ports are. The power supplies and fan trays must use the same intake direction as the chassis.
The full 48-port chassis is usable at shipment, with no 8-port upgrade licenses required to reach its maximum port count.
The 48 shortwave optics run at 850 nm on dual LC multimode fiber, reaching 70 m on OM3 and 100 m on OM4 or OM5. Single-mode links need longwave optics.
Ports are split into two groups of 24, each with up to 24,000 buffer credits and 1000 per port by default.
A port channel can bundle up to 24 physical links with load balancing, so one logical trunk can use the bandwidth of a whole port group.
At 50 percent traffic with 48 32G optics the switch draws 247W at 110V and 240W at 220V, with two supplies and four fans at 25C.
Application Scenarios
In rows with cold-aisle containment at the cable face, the switch pulls cool air in through the port side and exhausts at the rear.
A row of database servers and arrays can use all 48 ports at 32G over the included shortwave optics, with no further activation steps.
Fabric links to a core switch can be grouped into port channels of up to 24 links, which spreads traffic across the connections.

DS-C9148V-48PITK9 ships with all 48 ports active and 48 x 32G SW optics, while DS-C9148V-24PITK9 has the same port-side intake airflow and 32G optics but only 24 active ports, growing in 8-port steps with M9148V-PL8. Racks that need port-side exhaust airflow use DS-C9148V-48PETK9, with the same 48 ports and 32G SW optics. When the bundle must include 64G SW optics, DS-C9148V-48PIVK9 has the same 48 ports and intake airflow; the 64G-capable ports also run 32G optics, so DS-C9148V-48PITK9 is enough while endpoints stay at 32G.
Ordering Checklist
- Airflow-matched spares: Order the port-side intake parts DS-CAC-500W-I= power supply and DS-C32S-FAN-I= fan tray. Spares of the other direction do not match the chassis, and an intake side left in the hot aisle can overheat the switch and shut it down.
- Power supply type: Choose two supplies per switch: 500W AC, or DS-CAC-1200W= for AC, HVAC or HVDC with bidirectional airflow. The ordering line lists only 2 PSUs; the 500W and 1200W supplies take different input voltages, and DC feeds from 192 to 400V need the 1200W supply.
- Power cords: Select CAB-9K12A-NA or the regional CAB-9K10A cord for the 500W supplies, and CAB-HVAC-C14-2M for the 1200W supply. The supply type decides which cord plugs in at the rack PDU.
- Included optics: 48 x DS-SFP-FC32G-SW are in the bundle. Longer single-mode links need DS-SFP-FC32G-LW= or DS-SFP-FC32G-ELW=, and 64G links need DS-SFP-FC64G-SW=, because shortwave multimode optics do not reach single-mode distances.
- Software subscription: Add Premier (M91VXK9-P-1Y/3Y/5Y/7Y) or Advantage (M91VXK9-A-1Y/3Y/5Y); OSM channel orders use the -OSM PIDs. The bundle PIDs include neither subscription, and only Premier adds SAN Analytics.
