DS-C9148V-24PITK9 Description
The DS-C9148V-24PITK9 is a Cisco MDS 9148V Series 64G Fibre Channel switch for SAN fabrics in racks cooled from the port side. The 1RU switch has 48 SFP+ ports at 8, 16, 32 and 64 Gbps, 3 Tbps of aggregate bandwidth and port-side intake airflow, with 24 ports active and 24 Cisco 32G shortwave optics included. The other 24 ports stay inactive until M9148V-PL8 licenses are added in 8-port steps.

Product Performance
Key Features
Air flows front to back, entering at the port side. The power supplies and fan trays must be the intake type, and an intake side left in the hot aisle can overheat the switch and shut it down.
Half of the 48 SFP+ ports are active at shipment. Each M9148V-PL8 license activates 8 more, so three licenses bring the switch to 48 ports.
The 24 included optics use 850 nm light over dual LC multimode fiber and reach 70 m on OM3 or 100 m on OM4 and OM5. Longer single-mode links need different optics.
Every port has 64 Gbps of dedicated bandwidth, and the chassis switches 3 Tbps full duplex. Links on the included optics run at up to 32 Gbps.
The ports form two groups of 24. Each group holds up to 24,000 buffer credits, with 1000 per port by default and up to 16,000 on a single port for longer links.
The 500W AC supplies take 100 to 240 VAC, while the 1200W supply also accepts 192 to 400 VDC. With 24 32G optics at 50 percent traffic the switch draws 211W at 110V.
Application Scenarios
In a data hall with a cold aisle at the cable face, the switch draws cooling air through the port side, so the ports sit in the cool air next to the servers they serve.
A storage team connects the first 24 hosts and array ports over the included 32G shortwave optics, then activates more ports in 8-port blocks as racks fill.
Hosts with 8, 16 and 32 Gbps adapters share one chassis because each port autosenses its speed, and the shortwave optics reach 100 m on OM4 multimode fiber.

DS-C9148V-24PITK9 starts with 24 active ports and 24 x 32G SW optics, while DS-C9148V-48PITK9 has the same port-side intake airflow with all 48 ports active and 48 x 32G SW optics. A 24-port switch grows in 8-port steps with M9148V-PL8, so sites that expect more than 24 links on day one are better served by DS-C9148V-48PITK9. Where the bundle must include 64G SW optics, DS-C9148V-24PIVK9 keeps 24 ports and intake airflow but swaps the optics; the 64G-capable ports also run the 32G optics included here. Racks that need port-side exhaust airflow use DS-C9148V-24PETK9, with the same 24 ports and 32G optics.
Ordering Checklist
- Airflow-matched spares: Order the port-side intake parts DS-CAC-500W-I= power supply and DS-C32S-FAN-I= fan tray. Spares of the other direction do not match the chassis, and an intake side left in the hot aisle can overheat the switch and shut it down.
- Power supply type: Choose two supplies per switch: 500W AC, or DS-CAC-1200W= for AC, HVAC or HVDC with bidirectional airflow. The ordering line lists only 2 PSUs; the 500W and 1200W supplies take different input voltages, and DC feeds from 192 to 400V need the 1200W supply.
- Power cords: Select CAB-9K12A-NA or the regional CAB-9K10A cord for the 500W supplies, and CAB-HVAC-C14-2M for the 1200W supply. The supply type decides which cord plugs in at the rack PDU.
- Included optics: 24 x DS-SFP-FC32G-SW are in the bundle. Longer single-mode links need DS-SFP-FC32G-LW= or DS-SFP-FC32G-ELW=, and 64G links need DS-SFP-FC64G-SW=, because shortwave multimode optics do not reach single-mode distances.
- Port activation: 24 ports are active at order; add M9148V-PL8 licenses in 8-port steps up to 48. Links beyond port 24 stay disabled until licenses are added.
- Software subscription: Add Premier (M91VXK9-P-1Y/3Y/5Y/7Y) or Advantage (M91VXK9-A-1Y/3Y/5Y); OSM channel orders use the -OSM PIDs. The bundle PIDs include neither subscription, and only Premier adds SAN Analytics.
