DS-C9132T-MEK9 Description
The DS-C9132T-MEK9 is a Cisco MDS 9132T 32-Gbps Fibre Channel fixed SAN switch for racks with port-side exhaust airflow. The switch has 8 active ports, two fan modules, one power supply and 1024 Gbps of full-duplex bandwidth, and its ports autosense 4, 8, 16 and 32 Gbps. It includes no optics, so each active port stays empty until SFP+ optics are installed, and ports past the first 8 need an activation license or the 16-port expansion module.

Product Performance
Key Features
The switch carries 8 active ports and no transceivers, which leaves each port’s speed and reach to the optic installed. SW and LW optics at 32G, 16G and 8G all fit.
Air exits toward the port side, the reverse of the intake model. Fan and power-supply spares use the exhaust versions, and each system fan assembly moves 50 CFM at 25 C.
The chassis has 16 SFP+ base ports and 8 are active at the start. An activation license opens 8 more, giving up to 16 active ports.
A 16-port SFP+ expansion module in the slot raises an 8-port switch to 24 active ports. With a 16-port configuration it reaches the 32-port maximum.
Each port has 32 Gbps of dedicated bandwidth, and the chassis totals 1024 Gbps full duplex. Autosensing covers 4, 8, 16 and 32 Gbps devices.
Up to two hot-swappable 650W AC supplies fit the chassis, and the switch has one installed. A second supply gives power redundancy without taking the switch out of service.
Application Scenarios
A rack that connects older 8G arrays and newer 32G hosts can fit the right optic to each port, since the switch arrives without optics.
A site with both shortwave links inside the row and single-mode runs to another room can fill the ports with SW and LW optics as needed.
In a storage row where equipment exhausts air toward the port side, the switch sits beside the arrays it serves and keeps the same airflow direction as its neighbors.

DS-C9132T-MEK9 and DS-C9132T-MIK9 are the same base switch with eight active ports, two fans and one power supply, split only by airflow: this model is port-side exhaust and DS-C9132T-MIK9 is port-side intake. Neither includes optics. DS-C9132T-8PMETK9 adds eight 32G SW optics to the same exhaust configuration, and DS-C9132T-24PETK9 raises the first order to 24 active ports and 24 optics with four fans and two power supplies, without an Enterprise license. Growing this base switch takes an M9132T-PL8 license for up to 16 ports or an M9XT-FC1632 module for up to 24.
Ordering Checklist
- Airflow spares: Order the port-side exhaust spares DS-CAC-650W-E= power supply and DS-C32S-FAN-E= fan module. The intake spares are different PIDs, and a mismatched fan or supply reverses airflow in the rack.
- Port activation: The base switch starts with 8 active ports; M9132T-PL8 adds 8 ports for a maximum of 16, and the M9XT-FC1632 expansion module adds 16 for a maximum of 24. Ports beyond the factory 8 stay unusable until the license or module is on the order.
- Optics: Order SFP+ optics as separate lines: DS-SFP-FC32G-SW, DS-SFP-FC32G-LW=, DS-SFP-FC16G-SW, DS-SFP-FC16G-LW=, DS-SFP-FC8G-SW= or DS-SFP-FC8G-LW=. The base switch lists no optics, so ports stay empty without them.
- Enterprise package: Add M9100-ENT1K9= or L-M9100ENT1K9= as its own line for IVR, QoS, FC-SP, port security and traffic encryption. The base order description lists no Enterprise license, so those features are unavailable without it.
- Power cord: Select a country-specific cord from the data sheet list, such as CAB-9K12A-NA or CAB-9K10A-EU, for the C14 plug and C15 socket. The data sheet does not state which cord ships with the 8-port models.
