The DS-C9132T-MIK9 is a Cisco MDS 9132T 32G Fibre Channel SAN switch for connecting server racks to the SAN core. The switch has 8 active ports on a 16-port SFP+ base with an expansion slot, 4/8/16/32 Gbps autosensing, 1024 Gbps of aggregate bandwidth and port-side intake airflow. Ports beyond the first 8 come from an M9132T-PL8 activation license or the M9XT-FC1632 16-port expansion module.

Product Performance
Key Features
Air enters from the port side and flows front to back, using the DS-CAC-650W-I supply and DS-C32S-FAN-I fan module. The exhaust-airflow variant reverses this direction.
The chassis carries 16 SFP+ ports with 8 enabled at the start. That fits a rack with a small host and array count without paying for unused ports.
An 8-port activation license brings the base to 16 ports, and the 16-port expansion module takes the chassis to 24, then to 32 with a further license. Growth follows the fabric rather than the first purchase.
Each port has 32 Gbps of dedicated bandwidth, and a 16-port group holds up to 8300 buffer credits, 500 per port by default and 8270 on a single port. Long inter-switch links can borrow credits from the group.
The chassis supports two 650W AC supplies, hot-swappable fan modules and SFP+ optics, and in-service software upgrades. A failed supply or fan can be changed without taking the switch out of the fabric.
Two 10/100/1000 Mbps Ethernet management ports, an RS-232 console and a USB auto-provision port sit on the chassis, and Cisco MDS NX-OS 8.2(1) or later runs the switch.
Application Scenarios
A server rack that hosts Fibre Channel HBAs can connect to the SAN core through this switch, which supplies 8 active 32G ports and dedicated 32 Gbps bandwidth on each one.
Where arrays and hosts still run 8G or 16G optics, the autosensing ports link at the speed of the connected device, so existing 16G or 8G optics keep working in the 32G ports.
In cabinet rows that pull cool air in from the port side, the port-side intake version keeps the fan and power supply airflow in the same direction as the rest of the row.

DS-C9132T-MIK9 is the optic-free base of this group, with 8 active 32G FC ports, 2 fans and 1 PSU on port-side intake, while DS-C9132T-8PMISK9 is the same hardware with 8 x 16G SW optics included and DS-C9132T-8PMITK9 comes with 8 x 32G SW optics. A first phase of 24 ports belongs on DS-C9132T-24PITK9, which adds 24 x 32G SW optics, 4 fans and 2 PSUs; DS-C9132T-MIK9 itself reaches 16 ports with an M9132T-PL8 license and 24 ports with the M9XT-FC1632 expansion module. Racks that need port-side exhaust instead of intake need DS-C9132T-MEK9.
Ordering Checklist
- Airflow spares: Order DS-CAC-650W-I= and DS-C32S-FAN-I= for port-side intake. The exhaust versions, DS-CAC-650W-E= and DS-C32S-FAN-E=, would reverse airflow in the same chassis.
- Port growth: M9132T-PL8 adds 8 ports, and M9XT-FC1632 is the 16-port expansion module. The base switch ships with 8 active ports, and 32 ports needs the expansion module as well as a 16-port configuration.
- Optics: Add DS-SFP-FC32G-SW or DS-SFP-FC16G-SW as separate lines. The base switch is ordered without optics, so no transceivers arrive unless they are on the order.
- Power cords: Select a CAB-9K10A-* or CAB-9K12A-NA regional cord, or a CAB-C15-CBN cabinet jumper. The power supplies take a C15 cord, so the cord must match the destination country or cabinet.
