The DS-C9148V-48PIVK9 is a Cisco MDS 9148V Series 64G Fibre Channel fixed switch for SAN access in data center storage fabrics. The switch has 48 active SFP+ ports with 48 included 64G shortwave optics, 64 Gbps of dedicated bandwidth per port, 3 Tbps of full-duplex aggregate bandwidth and port-side intake airflow. The switch runs Cisco MDS NX-OS 9.3(1) or later, and the Premier and Advantage subscriptions are optional rather than included.

Product Performance
Key Features
All 48 SFP+ ports are active on delivery, each with 64 Gbps of dedicated bandwidth and autosensing down to 32, 16 and 8 Gbps. No port-upgrade license is needed to reach the full count.
The fixed 1RU switch moves 3 Tbps of end-to-end full-duplex traffic across 48 ports. Every port can run at line rate at the same time.
Air flows from the port side to the rear, matching racks with a cold aisle at the front. Fan trays and power supplies added later must also be intake units.
The 48 ports split into two groups of 24, and each group shares up to 24,000 buffer credits. A single port can take up to 16,000 of them, which suits long-distance links.
Each of the 48 ports ships with a 64G shortwave SFP+ for dual LC multimode fiber. The optics also autosense 32 and 16 Gbps, so older host adapters can still link up.
Premier and Advantage terms of 1, 3, 5 or 7 years attach through Smart Licensing Using Policy. Premier adds SAN Analytics on top of the Enterprise and NDFC functions that Advantage covers.
Application Scenarios
In a data center SAN, the switch connects all-flash arrays and high-performance hosts at 64 Gbps per port and carries the traffic of NVMe/FC fabrics.
Racks that pull cold air through the port side take the intake-airflow switch with its four fans and two 500W supplies facing the cold aisle, so no airflow reversal is needed.
Where a site already runs LC multimode fiber, the 64G shortwave optics link hosts and storage ports over up to 100 m of OM4 or OM5 at 64 Gbps.

DS-C9148V-48PIVK9 and DS-C9148V-48PEVK9 both ship with 48 active ports and 48 x 64G SW optics, but DS-C9148V-48PIVK9 pulls air in through the port side while DS-C9148V-48PEVK9 exhausts from it, so the airflow of the rack decides between them. Sites that want to start with 24 active ports and 24 x 64G SW optics can order DS-C9148V-24PIVK9, which has the same intake airflow, and add ports later with the M9148V-PL8 upgrade license. Where the fabric still runs 32G optics, DS-C9148V-48PITK9 keeps intake airflow and 48 active ports but includes 48 x 32G SW optics. Premier and Advantage subscriptions are optional on all four orders.
Ordering Checklist
- Airflow of spares: Order fan tray DS-C32S-FAN-I= and 500W power supply DS-CAC-500W-I=, both port-side intake. The exhaust spares DS-C32S-FAN-E= and DS-CAC-500W-E= would reverse the airflow of this intake switch.
- Power supply type: Choose two 500W AC supplies, or DS-CAC-1200W= for 1200W AC, HVAC or HVDC input. The 500W supplies take 100 to 240 VAC, and the 1200W supply needs its own input range and the CAB-HVAC-C14-2M cord.
- Power cords: Select a country cord for the 500W supplies, such as CAB-9K10A-EU, CAB-9K10A-UK or CAB-9K12A-NA. Cord types are ordered per destination, so the wrong one cannot plug into the site outlet.
- Subscription license: Add an optional Premier (M91VXK9-P-3Y) or Advantage (M91VXK9-A-3Y) term, direct or -OSM channel PID, as a separate line. The switch bundle includes neither subscription.
