IE-3100-18T2C-E Description
The IE-3100-18T2C-E is a Cisco Catalyst IE3100 Rugged Series industrial switch for control cabinets that aggregate many Gigabit copper devices. The switch has eighteen 10/100/1000 RJ45 ports, two 1000BASE-T/1000BASE-X combo uplinks and dual DC inputs from 12V to 48V, and it mounts on a DIN rail at -40°C to 75°C in a blower-equipped cabinet. The switch has no PoE, and each combo uplink runs on either its RJ45 or its SFP side.

Key Features
The switch has the highest copper density in the IE3100 family, with 20 Gbps of forwarding bandwidth and 29.76 Mpps across 18 RJ45 ports and 2 uplinks.
Each of the two uplinks is a dual-media port that works as 1000BASE-T copper or as a 1G or 100M SFP. When both sides are connected the SFP side is used by default, and the media type can be set to RJ45.
With no PoE load, power consumption is 36.7 W from dual DC inputs of 12V to 48V nominal, and the primary and backup inputs keep the switch running if one feed fails.
Application Scenarios
On a production line, the switch connects PLCs, HMIs, drives and sensors in one DIN-rail cabinet through its eighteen Gigabit copper ports, and none of those devices draws power from the switch.
A cabinet that hands off to a plant network can use the combo uplinks as RJ45 where copper is already pulled, or as SFP where a rugged fiber run leaves the cabinet.
In a substation or trackside equipment room, the dual DC inputs let the switch run from two independent feeds while the wide temperature range covers unconditioned enclosures.

IE-3100-18T2C-E and IE-3100-18T2C-CC-E share 18 copper ports, two combo uplinks and 36.7 W consumption, and the only listed difference is conformal coating on IE-3100-18T2C-CC-E, so coated cabinets need that PID. The FPGA data path and Layer 2 NAT on the uplinks exist only on the IE3105 variant, so sites that translate addresses move to IE-3105-18T2C-E. Neither 18-port model has PoE; powered endpoints need IE-3100-8P2C-E, which has eight PoE ports, a 125 W default budget on a 52.5V to 60V input and up to 240 W with a suitable power supply and configuration. A cabinet that needs only eight copper ports can use IE-3100-8T2C-E at 17.7 W.
Ordering Checklist
- Power supply: Order a separate DIN-rail supply such as PWR-IE50W-AC= or PWR-IE170W-PC-DC=; these are listed with the = spare suffix, not as a default switch item. The switch has no power source of its own and no default supply.
- SD card: Add SD-IE-1GB= or SD-IE-16GB=; the card is optional and does not ship by default. Without a card there is no stored configuration to restore when a failed switch is replaced.
- Catalyst Center subscription: Add IE3100-DNA-E-M with a -1Y, -3Y, -5Y, -7Y or -10Y term, only if Catalyst Center Essentials manages the switch. IE3100-DNA-E-M covers up to 24 ports, which fits this 20-port switch; IE3100-DNA-E-L covers up to 12.
- Rack mounting: Add STK-RACK-DINRAIL=, the 19-inch rack kit for DIN-rail mounting. The rack kit is its own order line, so it is missing unless added.
- Uplink optics: Choose industrial SFPs on the Optics-to-Device Compatibility Matrix; for utility, rail or marine sites, -40 to +85 C grade. A commercial-temperature SFP can fail in the cabinet’s temperature range.
