IE-3100-8T4S-E Description
IE-3100-8T4S-E is a Cisco Catalyst IE3100 Rugged Series industrial Ethernet switch with Network Essentials licensing for DIN-rail access deployments in industrial cabinets. The SKU provides eight 10/100/1000 RJ45 downlink ports and four dedicated 100/1000 SFP fiber uplink ports, giving non-PoE edge sites a compact copper access switch with more fiber uplink positions than two-combo-port IE3100 models. Cisco documentation identifies it as a non-PoE model with dual DC power inputs, 17.8 W power consumption, 17.856 Mpps forwarding rate, and Cisco IOS XE support beginning with the Dublin 17.11.1 release train.

Key Features
IE-3100-8T4S-E gives the access switch four 100/1000 SFP fiber uplinks, so it should not be treated as a two-combo-uplink 8T2C substitute.
The downlink block is eight 10/100/1000 RJ45 ports for Ethernet endpoints that do not need switch-supplied PoE power.
Cisco maps the exact IE-3100-8T4S-E PID to Network Essentials, keeping the E suffix attached to the intended IE3100 license tier.
The hardware guide model table marks the IE-3100-8T4S-E FPGA data path as No, so IE3105-specific requirements should stay out of this order line.
The data sheet lists 12V to 48V nominal DC input and 17.8 W power consumption, which matters when the switch shares an industrial power supply with other cabinet loads.
Cisco documents an SD-card connector, two alarm inputs, one alarm output, dual power connectors, and a micro-USB port across the IE3100 Rugged Series.
Application Scenarios
IE-3100-8T4S-E fits control cabinets where eight copper endpoints need local access and multiple fiber uplinks are preferred over copper/SFP combo handoffs.
Suits installations where powered devices receive power outside the switch and the network design still needs four GE SFP uplink paths from the DIN-rail switch.
This model fits a Network Essentials IE3100 refresh when the project has outgrown the two-SFP 4T2S profile but does not require the dual-media uplinks of 8T2C.

- In an IE-3100-8T4S-E vs IE-3100-8T2C-E comparison, the current SKU adds four SFP-only uplinks while IE-3100-8T2C-E uses two dual-media combo uplinks.
- The IE-3100-8T4S-E vs IE-3100-4T2S-E difference is access density and uplink count: IE-3100-8T4S-E has eight RJ45 ports and four SFP uplinks, while IE-3100-4T2S-E has four RJ45 ports and two SFP uplinks.
- For IE-3100-8T4S-E vs IE-3100-8P2C-E comparison work, the main table split is endpoint power and uplink media: IE-3100-8P2C-E adds PoE/PoE+ and a 240 W PoE budget but uses combo uplinks.
- Buyers deciding which model to choose should lock the fiber-uplink count, combo-uplink requirement, and PoE requirement before treating these Network Essentials IE3100 PIDs as interchangeable.
Selection Guide
1. Choose it for eight data ports and four fiber uplinks
Choose IE-3100-8T4S-E when the cabinet needs eight Gigabit RJ45 endpoints, four 100/1000 SFP uplinks, Network Essentials, and a non-PoE access profile.
2. Use 8T2C-E only when combo media matters
Move to IE-3100-8T2C-E if the design needs two dual-media copper/SFP uplinks rather than four SFP-only uplinks.
3. Select 8P2C-E for powered access
Select IE-3100-8P2C-E when the same eight endpoint positions must supply PoE/PoE+ power and the BOM calls for the Cisco-listed 240 W PoE budget.
4. Verify optics and DC power before release
Confirm SFP module type, power-supply capacity, 12V to 48V DC feed, and DIN-rail space because these items control whether the 8T4S cabinet build matches the Cisco hardware profile.
