IE-3400H-16FT-A Description
The IE-3400H-16FT-A is a Cisco Catalyst IE3400 Heavy Duty Series industrial switch for wall-mounted sensor and instrument networks that have no enclosure. The switch has 16 Fast Ethernet ports on M12 D-coded connectors, a single 9.6V to 60V DC input, IP66/IP67 protection and an operating range of -40°C to +75°C with airflow. The automotive and railway certification groups apply only to the Gigabit models, so this Fast Ethernet model carries neither.

Key Features
The 16 10/100M ports suit instruments and I/O blocks that never need Gigabit, while the switch still runs the full IOS XE feature set.
The 4-pin D-coded ports match the cordsets already used by industrial sensors and legacy automation devices, so an existing Fast Ethernet cable plant connects without adapters.
The perpetual license adds OSPF, BGP, EIGRP, VRF-lite, TrustSec SGT/SGACL and MACsec-256 on top of the Essentials feature set, so routed segmentation is available at the sensor edge.
REP, PROFINET-MRP, PRP on ports Gig1/1-1/4, HSR-SAN, HSR-PRP Dual Redbox and DLR are part of the Essentials baseline and close redundant loops across the 100M estate.
IP66/IP67 and UL 50E Type 4X protection, with IEC 60068-2-52 salt mist and IEC 60068-2-60 mixed-gas testing, allows mounting in washdown and corrosive areas.
At 38.4W at 9.6V and a 4.0A maximum, the switch draws about 3W less than the Gigabit IE-3400H-16T-A on the same single DC input.
Application Scenarios
Chemical, water and food-processing skids can mount the switch beside transmitters, analyzers and valve controllers, which connect at 100M over D-coded M12 cordsets that withstand washdown.
A plant modernizing older PLCs, I/O gateways and serial-to-Ethernet converters can gather them on one sealed managed switch that runs the same IOS XE image as the Gigabit models.
Weather, gate and monitoring devices on dams, yards and agricultural structures connect to the switch, which operates from -40°C to +75°C without a cabinet.

IE-3400H-16FT-A and IE-3400H-16T-A share the 16-port housing and the Network Advantage license, but IE-3400H-16FT-A has 16 Fast Ethernet ports on D-coded M12 connectors, where IE-3400H-16T-A has Gigabit ports on X-coded connectors. Any Gigabit endpoint, or any vehicle or rail project, means ordering IE-3400H-16T-A, because the automotive and railway certification groups apply only to the Gigabit SKUs. IE-3400H-16FT-A draws 38.4W at 9.6V against 41.6W, which suits 100M sensor and instrument networks. A site with 8 or fewer Gigabit drops can use IE-3400H-8T-A at 30.4W.
Ordering Checklist
- Power input: Provide a 9.6-60VDC source rated for 4.0A at 9.6V and a Molex Mini-Change cordset such as 130006-0737, or use PWR-IE160W-67-DC= from an 18-60V source. The single Mini-Change input rejects cordsets or supplies with another connector.
- Data cordsets: Order M12 D-coded 4-pin cordsets for the populated ports. The Fast Ethernet ports take only D-coded 4-pin M12 connectors, so other codings do not fit.
- Console cable: Order CAB-CONSOLE-M12=, a 6 ft M12-to-DB9F cable. The console port is M12 A-coded 5-pin, so a standard console cable does not connect.
- SD card: Add SD-IE-16GB if removable storage is wanted. The card is an optional part and the switch has no USB port, so no other removable storage is available.
- Catalyst Center license: Add IE3400H-DNA-A with a -3Y, -5Y or -7Y term if Catalyst Center management is planned. The Advantage license is ordered separately and requires a Network Advantage switch, which this -A model is.
