IE-3400H-8T-A Description
The IE-3400H-8T-A is a Cisco Catalyst IE3400 Heavy Duty Series industrial switch for wall-mounted machines and vehicles that have no protective cabinet. The switch has 8 Gigabit M12 X-coded ports, an IP66/IP67 and UL 50E Type 4X housing, a 9.6-60VDC single power input and an operating range of -40°C to +75°C with 200 LFM airflow. The switch has no PoE, no SFP slots and no expansion slot, and its Network Advantage license adds dynamic routing, TrustSec and MACsec-256 to the Essentials ring and industrial protocol set.

Key Features
The IP66/IP67 and Type 4X enclosure handles dust, water jets and brief immersion, so the switch mounts on washdown equipment or outdoor structures without a separate cabinet.
All 8 Gigabit ports use screw-locking M12 X-coded connectors instead of RJ45, which keeps links seated through the vibration of road vehicles, trains and heavy machinery.
OSPF, BGP, EIGRP, VRF-lite and TrustSec SGT/SGACL come with the perpetual license, and MACsec-256 encrypts uplinks that cross public space.
REP, PROFINET-MRP, PRP on ports Gig1/1-1/4, HSR, DLR, EtherNet/IP and certified PROFINET are included from the Essentials tier up, so zero-loss ring topologies need no extra license.
The Gigabit hardware carries UN ECE R10 and E-Mark approvals, the EN50155:2021 railway set and EN45545-2 fire safety. The Fast Ethernet models do not carry them.
Salt mist (IEC 60068-2-52) and mixed gas (IEC 60068-2-60) testing, a +60°C still-air rating and a 13,800 ft altitude limit suit coastal, chemical and high-elevation sites.
Application Scenarios
In food, beverage and pharmaceutical plants, the switch mounts directly on equipment that is hosed down between shifts and links controllers over sealed M12 Gigabit ports. The IP67 housing removes the need for a stainless enclosure.
On trains, trams and specialty vehicles, the switch connects cameras, passenger systems and control equipment through screw-locking M12 links. The Gigabit models carry the E-Mark and EN50155 approval sets.
On cranes, mining equipment and dockside structures, the switch runs between -40°C and +75°C in dust and spray. Its Network Advantage routing and TrustSec features let the machine edge segment OT traffic itself.

IE-3400H-8T-A has 8 M12 X-coded Gigabit ports in a 7.90 in wide housing, while IE-3400H-16T-A has 16 ports at 10.90 in and IE-3400H-24T-A has 24 ports at 13.90 in, so the number of drops at the mounting point decides the model. Width brings draw and weight: 30.4W and 8.45 lb for IE-3400H-8T-A, 41.6W and 11.25 lb for IE-3400H-16T-A, 49.0W and 13.90 lb for IE-3400H-24T-A, which matters on a vehicle or machine with a sized DC feed. The platform has no expansion slot, so a site with more than 8 endpoints should start on IE-3400H-16T-A, and one with more than 16 on IE-3400H-24T-A. A Layer 2 ring node that does not need Network Advantage can use IE-3400H-8T-E and be upgraded later with the perpetual IE3400H-NW-A= license.
Ordering Checklist
- DC power source: Provide one 9.6-60VDC feed; PWR-IE160W-67-DC= is the listed IP67 DC-DC supply (18V-60V input, 54V output, 160W max). The switch has a single power input and no second feed.
- Power cordset: Order a Molex Mini-Change cord such as 130006-0737 (single-end female) or 130010-0863 (double-end). The power input is a Mini-Change connector, so the cord is chosen by its Molex part number.
- Console cable: Order CAB-CONSOLE-M12= (6 ft, M12 to DB9F). The console port is M12 A-coded 5-pin, so a standard console cable does not fit.
- SD card: Add SD-IE-16GB if a card is wanted for configuration backup and switch replacement. The card is optional and is not part of the switch PID.
- Catalyst Center subscription: Add IE3400H-DNA-A with a 3Y, 5Y or 7Y term, only if Catalyst Center is used. The license is optional and sold as a separate PID from the switch.
