IE-3400H-16T-E Description
The IE-3400H-16T-E is a Cisco Catalyst IE3400 Heavy Duty Series industrial switch for sealed machine, wall and vehicle mounting points with Layer 2 duty. The switch has 16 Gigabit ports on M12 X-coded connectors, a single 9.6V to 60V DC input, IP66/IP67 protection and an operating range of -40°C to +75°C with airflow. The -E suffix carries Network Essentials, which has static and inter-VLAN routing but not OSPF, BGP, TrustSec or MACsec-256 until the license is upgraded.

Key Features
PRP on ports Gig1/1-1/4, HSR-SAN, HSR-PRP Dual Redbox, DLR, REP and PROFINET-MRP are included with Network Essentials.
The IP66/IP67 Type 4X housing takes 16 locking X-coded connections directly in spray and outdoor weather, replacing a switch-in-enclosure assembly.
The perpetual IE3400H-NW-A= license converts the unit to Network Advantage, adding dynamic routing, VRF-lite, TrustSec SGT/SGACL and MACsec-256 with no hardware change.
EtherNet/IP (CIP) and certified PROFINET operation, plus GOOSE and MODBUS classification, are supported at the Essentials tier.
IEEE 1588 PTPv2 in Default and Power Profile, including PTP over PRP, is available without the Advantage upgrade.
UN ECE R10, E-Mark, the EN50155:2021 railway group with EN45545-2, IEC 60068-2-52/-2-60 corrosion testing and a 13,800 ft ceiling apply to this Gigabit model.
Application Scenarios
Washdown lines and outdoor plant can use the switch as a ring member, carrying PROFINET or EtherNet/IP traffic over REP or MRP rings on 16 locking ports.
A rail project with EN50155 requirements can fit the switch as a 16-port carriage node and raise the license later with IE3400H-NW-A= if routed segmentation is added.
Camera and I/O clusters that rely on IGMP snooping, PTP timing and DLR or HSR resilience connect to the switch at mounting points too exposed for cabinet switches.

IE-3400H-16T-E and IE-3400H-16T-A are identical 16-port Gigabit hardware; IE-3400H-16T-E ships with Network Essentials, so dynamic routing, VRF-lite, TrustSec SGT/SGACL and MACsec-256 stay unavailable until the license is raised. The perpetual IE3400H-NW-A= upgrades the unit in place, so IE-3400H-16T-A is the order only when those features are needed on day one. A site with only 100M endpoints and no vehicle or rail requirement can move to IE-3400H-16FT-A, which draws 38.4W against 41.6W on Fast Ethernet D-coded ports, but it drops the automotive and railway certification groups that apply only to Gigabit SKUs.
Ordering Checklist
- Upgrade license: Order IE3400H-NW-A=, the perpetual Network Advantage upgrade for -E units. Without it the unit stays on Network Essentials and the Advantage routing and security features cannot be enabled.
- Power input: Provide a 9.6-60VDC source rated for 4.4A at 9.6V and a Molex Mini-Change cordset such as 130006-0737, or use PWR-IE160W-67-DC= from an 18-60V source. The single Mini-Change input rejects cordsets or supplies with another connector.
- Data cordsets: Order M12 X-coded 8-pin cordsets for the populated ports. The Gigabit ports take only X-coded 8-pin M12 connectors, so other codings do not fit.
- Console cable: Order CAB-CONSOLE-M12=, a 6 ft M12-to-DB9F cable. The console port is M12 A-coded 5-pin, so a standard console cable does not connect.
- SD card: Add SD-IE-16GB if removable storage is wanted. The card is an optional part and the switch has no USB port, so no other removable storage is available.
- Catalyst Center license: Add IE3400H-DNA-E with a -3Y, -5Y or -7Y term if Catalyst Center management is planned. The license is ordered separately, and the Advantage version requires a Network Advantage switch, so this unit needs the -E version until upgraded.
